My mother in law asked me to restore her most treasured photo. It is a photo of her 5 children when they were infants. Originally it was a 120 print that she cut down (with scissors) to fit in her wallet where she has carried it since. Her children are now in their 40's. There is no negative and this is the only copy.
I am not a Photoshop wizard at all. I am using CS6, took my time, learned a lot on here as well as you tube, and was able to clean up everything but the hair. I am unable to make the hair acceptable and not a clue on how to get it there.
Not really sure why but the jpeg file has grown after numerous edits and now sits at around 75Mb. Because of the sizeI have not been able to upload it to this site for review. If I post the image on dropbox will you work on it from there? Otherwise does anyone know how to get this large of a file to upload?
Thanks,
Dave

Do you have the original jpg or did you overwrite it every time you edited it?
Can you re-scan the original print?
I plan on posting 3 photos to dropbox, the original photo, the edited photo, and the edited photo with borders. Are you ok with going to a dropbox account?
Here is the link to the folder containing the original scan and the restored photo up to the hair attempt.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/o6zt54lhsaibw3z/AAC14oL8XcvNrJJoSwgy9Cr0a?dl=0The final photo with my hair restoration attempt and borders is still a .psd file and is over 800Mb. I am currently in Linux and later today will go over to Windows to convert it to a jpeg and upload it to dropbox.
Thanks for looking.

OK, here's my attempt. I see you did a lot of work to remove the tape(?) and dust but had trouble with the scratches or stretch marks on the hair.
I took the jpg you worked on and selected the hair with the quick selection tool in PS. I then used "refine selection" to feather the edge a bit and save the selection to a new layer as a copy of the image with a mask. I then applied a gaussian blur (12 px) to that layer. I then saved the image to 1971 -005ps-13.jpg. In doing so I reduced the quality from 12 (maximum) to 8 since there's a lot of blur in the original (mainly from scanning a small print) so reducing the quality won't hurt the final image. It came out about 12 MBytes.
All I did was to blur the hair. The stretch marks are still there if you look closely, but they don't stand out as much as they did before.

I know this is not perfect . You may like it , or you may not . That's ok . The smaller you print it , the better it will look .Tom
Thank you so much for your help. I spent hours without success and you got it. The photo is only going to be printed wallet size so it should turn out fine.

Dave, Here is my go at it. I did not know how to send a larger jpeg through dropbox. this on is a smaller condensed file. But as a wallet it should work if you like.
