Youtube is the best way! You need two computers, I use my IPad for YouTube sitting at my work station with photoshop then copy the instruction to edit clone Magic wand burn sharpen and so on, when I get stuck or can not find the right bit I stop the iPad and rewind. Get back on track and carry on.hope this helps 😉👍🏻

Times 2.

I'm 30% into "Photoshop CC for Photographers: Fundamentals" with Chris Orwig. I'm enthralled with how he is unraveling the mystery of Photoshop for me. I keep saying "Ah-Hah" and light bulb of new knowledge are popping on.

Other choices at Lynda are "Photoshop CC 2015 One-on-One: Fundamentals" with Deke McClelland and "Photoshop CC Essential Training (2015)" with Julieanne Kost.

Random wandering through YouTube does not work for me. If you don't know there is a "Clone Stamp Tool" you won't know to wander into it on YouTube. An organized course with well planned lessons will build skills sensibly and efficiently.

"Classroom in a Book: the official training workbook from Adobe Systems" is a great introduction to the basics of PS. It's available on Amazon.com. It comes with two hours of tutorials on disc from Adobe.

This is the way to get started.

You want a real advice w/o anything to pay (other than a coffee?)

Go to border's if there is one next to you. Grab a cup of whatever and take few reference books and/or magazines and start reading.

This will quickly either make you throw the whole idea of learning PS CC or will intrigue you enough that you will keep reading and glean information at the same time.

THEN start looking for sources* to learn more other than using books that are way more expensive than they are worth.

This type of question comes up all the time and the information given is always confusing, often contradictory, rarely objective and let's be honest not useful.

----
* Two type:
1 - free - you get what you pay for from incredible advice to well, less than worthless
2 - Fee based - There the quality is also an issue but more importantly your learning style. Some will swear by so and so when you really need this and that.

Which version??? The Photoshop for Dummies on the version you are using is a good place to start. and starting at the fist page when learning PS is essential. The pick a specific item you want to learn and download tutorials of the internet - there are thousands of good videos out there.

I have been learning PS for 12 yrs from 5.5 up to my present CS4 program which I will continue to use. The class room in a book for my CS4 was my best investment.

Thanks to all who respond(ed).
I don't mind paying if the explanation is such that I can understand it. I'm a hands on person and reading leaves something to be desired.

Firefox and youtube downloader can be quite useful, especially if you find a good teacher. Build up your references video by video.

Classroom in a Book for Photoshop and LightRoom, both CC, are available from Amazon.com; they come with "Lessons" and this series is a structured invaluable way to learn the stuff.
