What would the best lens for newborn photography
I use my 50mm prime 1.8 because I like to use as much natural light as possible and be physically close to the baby.
I would more worry about the lighting than the lens...
Just saying.
For what body?

Good call. That reinforces the other comments about the fact that the focal length of the lens (within reason) is not as important as the speed of the lens. I have never seen a picture (candid snapshot or formal portrait) which was improved by artificial light. Natural lighting is best for infants. They look more natural, and they are not disturbed by a sudden blast of light.
I also vote for 50mm f1.4 or f1.8. I have a book by a infant photographer and almost everyone was done with a 50mm.

*No offense meant but I thought it was funny when you said "infant photographer".

There is no one here that knows more about infant photography than Cliff Lawson. He goes by CaptainC and helps run a charity for photographing infants near death. He also knows many many photographer who do this type of photography. If I were gong to do this type of photography that's who I would ask....and probably a ton more questions. You might want to PM him and have him respond here.
