Sony Mount Confusion

I recently purchased a Sony a6000 mirrorless camera that sports an e-mount. I have the 18-55 and 55-210 lenses, and wish to purchase an wide angle. The Sony 10-18 looks nice and is advertised by Sony for their e-mount cameras. However, $850 seems a little high to me, so I began looking at alternatives. Where I get confused is, for example, Sigma sells a 10-20mm F3.5 EX DC HSM lens that's available in the "Sony/Minolta" mount. I can't seem to find an explanation of what that is? I'm thinking it may be the A mount? So, I'd need an adapter?

If the lens literature says Sony/Minolta mount then it is referring to the A mount. Remember; the E mount specification came along AFTER Sony had absorbed Minolta.

You can go to the Sigma website and see the lenses available in the E mount.

In order to use A mount lenses on your E mount camera, you will need either the Sony LAEA-3 or Sony LAEA-4 adapters, depending on whether or not your lens has a built in focus motor (LAEA-3) or uses the cameras screw drive for focus (LAEA-4).

Yes, that lens is the "A" mount. The FE-mount has not caught on with the aftermarket manufacturers yet. Best bet for the Sony FE crowd as of now is the E-A mount adapter.

Yes you would need a adaptor

Sony makes a E 10–18 mm F4 OSS for your a6000, you would be better off buying it instead of another lens + a adaptor.

With the A6000, it won't auto focus the Sigma lens if the cheaper LA-EA3 is used. Only the LA-EA4 will provide auto focus.

Thanks to all. Particularly the suggestions for specific adapters. I have a Canon EF/EF-S to E-mount adapter but am disappointed with the results when I paired it up with my Canon EF-S 10-22 wide angle lens. Yes, auto focus is wanted, so the $350 LA-EA4 would seem to be the best option. But, since this is primarily used as walk around and vacation camera, I'm thinking biting the bullet one time and buying the Sony 10-18 f4 e mount lens might be the preferred way to go. A used lens can usually be found for about $610-$650. Thanks again everyone.

B&H lists only 3 wide-angle zooms, all Sony, for the E-mount, the lowest price being for the 10-18. The other 2 are full-frame lenses. It appears that you will need an adapter for any other lenses.
Here is a list of adapters for Sony E APS-C cameras:

Check the desired Lens Fitting (Female) mount to see what is available.

I really like this one: Sony 20mm f/2.8 Alpha E-mount Lens. Its super small, and great for the e-mount cameras. You can get it new for $350 at B&H. Used on eBay for less.

I bought the Sigma 19mm for my 6000. It takes great pics, does not have Oss, but that does not affect IQ. It is onle 200.00

If you don't like messin' with adapters, consider the Ziess Touit 12mm. It is my preferred WA for the A6000. It is an AF lens for the e-mount cameras. Great color and contrast.

You can get a Rokinon 12mm in E mount f2 that is very sharp. It is a manual lens but at 12mm almost everything is at infinity. It will run you $320 or so. The Sigma 19mm/f2.8 is only $200 or thereabouts.

Yup. That's an A-mount lens. The original line of Sony cameras used an autofocus Minolta mount. An advantage is that there were (are?) a many good used Minolta lenses available for very reasonable prices. But not for the a6000.
