Can anyone identify these mushrooms found under an oak tree on my walk today
They do look dreadful and probably toadstools although I dont know what is the difference between the two.

possibly this...Amanita muscaria
Looks like a coprinus comitus or shaggy mane as it's called. It's part of the Inky Cap family. Generally it is edible but I wouldn't try it without an expert who can verify it.

According to my mushroom book N.A.S. this is a Shaggy Mane (Coprinus comatus) and it is edible.
