HI Guys:
I live in NYC and most of the time wander the streets with a micro 4/3 cloned to my hip. There are times, however, when it just is not feasible to have that large a camera. I'm looking for suggestions for something better than the snapshot capabilities of my iPhone. Reworded, I could say I'm looking for the smallest box that has the best lens.
Suggestions?
Thanks
David
When it comes to pocket size cameras you can have a large sensor and a short zoom or a smaller sensor with a longer zoom.
For a large sensor consider the Sony RX100 IV. For a long zoom consider the Panasonic ZS50. I mention these two because they have a viewfinder which I consider essential. It helps in bright light when the LCD screen can be hard to see, and it helps in low light because holding the camera to you eye is more stable than holding the camera out in front of you.

If you want something really small, fits in a trouser pocket, the Lumix LX7 is really good value for money. Less than £300 and excellent shots on screen or up to A4 in prints, sometimes more. Its really light, robust and easy to use and you have got all usual features that photographers want, manual, aperture control etc Raw or JPG etc.
Daldds - have you considered an Olympus PEN micro4/3rds camera? Smaller (if such a thing is possible) than a 'standard' Olympus M4/3rds body (which is already very small) but it would allow you to use some or all of the fine lenses you already have and an interface with which you are already comfortable. Inexpensive used or refurb PEN cameras are available from Olympus, KEH, B&H, Adorama, Amazon and other sources. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
Interesting. I never thought of that. I guess it's time to go online and see what the used market has. Thank you.

Don't discount the effectiveness of film. A Rollei 35 is a FULL FRAME camera that will fit in a shirt pocket.
I'd go for a used epm2 and a used Panasonic 20mm 1.7. That way you don't give up on image quality
I had thought of that: film is all I knew for 50 years. Now, at 80,
and no darkroom, + the need for instant gradtification, I ruled it out.

You really don't need a darkroom as such. You just need to be able to block out all light while you load film on reels and put the reels in a drum; a changing bag or tent will work fine. Once you have negatives, you can scan them and make positive prints from the digital files. I'm in the process of emptying out a kitchen cupboard. In addition to developer, stop bath and fixer, all I need is some implements, such as jugs, a funnel, thermometer, tongs and clips. The only problem I'll have is cutting the strip in half to allow drying over the sink. Oh, that and nosy neighbors complaining about the smell of vinegar.

I have a Sony pocket camera that I have had for years and it is a great little camera. The Sony above looks wonderful - but no telephoto and very expensive ($900+). Also consider the Sony WX350:

When I wander around with my pocket camera I carry a 6" flexible tripod. You can set this on a car hood or fence post and use the self-timer to get fantastic time exposures.
Panasonic DMC zs40. 720mm Lecia with a viewfinder. Costco under $300.

I also live in NYC. If I carried a lighter camera my excuse for stopping at Bobby Vans for a rest and lunch would no longer be valid.
The one with the highest pixel count IMOHO :-)
