I have a Nikon D300 in mint condition. I have been offered to do an even swap for a 6 month old barely used Nikon D7000. Nothing shady here, the D7000 owner had a D200 and does not like the D7000. Good deal? I do not know a lot about the Nikon D7000 or how it compares to the D300.
Any D7000 users out there who can chime in?
Thanks in advance!

Swap the cameras, gently say "Thank you!". And run!

I shoot a D7000 and think it's a rugged and good camera. I hope this link from Snapsort comes through comparing the D300 to the D7000. I'd take the D7000 if I had the choice.

Just a thought but why do you want the D7000?
Your D300 is a brilliant camera, took the best pics when it came out as a new model and that hasn't changed. Pro level body, rugged and functional.
The D7000 has been superseded twice and probably will be again.
Have to admit, I wanted one when it came out. But at the time couldn't afford both so stuck with the D300(S).
I have since bought the D7001 but still have the D300 and use both regularly.
At times my favourite critics can guess the difference in results, but not often.
I'm glad I kept the D300 but have to admit I enjoy using the D7001.
Horses for courses mate.
The only proviso I would mention is shutter count. If your D300 is over 100,000, maybe jump at the deal, providing the D7000 isn't in the same category.
My shutter count is just under 8400

Its not even run in yet.
You havent mentioned what you use the camera for. Scenic, portrait, kids and family shots, sport??
If you have looked at the comparison link someone posted, you will see the strengths each camera provides.
I can understand why your friend would like to swap. He's getting a huge upgrade in my opinion from the D200 (I went that route too), plus he's getting an almost new camera.
From the clicks on the D300 you arent a high volume user.
Are you going to use the D7000 any more than you have to date on the D300?
If you just arent happy with the D300, go for it.
But if its a case of just wanting a change, hmmm, me, Id stick with what you have.
I use my D300 as a general purpose camera. Girl friend, dog, occassional party, holidays ect.....
The video would be a plus. I hear the high iso noise performance of the D7000 is superoir to the D300. The buffer is not an issue as I never do rapid shooting.

I would not be so quick getting rid of my D300. I have D200 and D5100 and while IQ of 5100 is better over all shooting experience with D200 I enjoy more.
I suggest-borrow D7000 from your friend and play with it for a few days and see if you like it.
I have the D7000. I like it. The only downside is it doesn't mount the old pre-ais or non-ais Nikkor film lenses.
After much consideration, compairing and researchi ng the D300 and D7000 I have decided to keep my D300. D300 may not have as good of iso performance as the D7000 but I feel the D300 is a better camera.
Thanks for all you contributed to my decision.
