Newbie CPF question. The camerapedia entry on polarizer says:
Lenses with rotating front elements will mess up your polarizing filter's rotation. If your lens has a rotating front element, you should adjust the polarizing filter after you've set the focus.
I assume that this refers to any zoom lens, right? IOW, unless youre shooting with a prime lens, you must always focus first, then turn the CPF. I just want to make sure Im understanding this correctly. Thanks.

Some lenses are internal-focus so the front doesn't spin. Nikon uses the "IF" designation for these - I don't know what other makes use.
also, are you manually focusing, then that could create issues as the manual focusing ring is usually very close to the edge of the lens and one could by mistake change the CPL as well.

Some lenses have an outer barrel that turns when you focus it, others do not, regardless of it being a prime or zoom lens. Just look at all your lenses on the front element where you would screw in a filter and turn the focus ring.
If the end of the lens where you screw in a filter, moves when you turn the focus ring, you have one of those types. If the end where you screw in a filter, does not move when you turn the focus ring, then you don't have anything to worry about. It is that simple.
If the lens barrel on the end turns when focusing, then, YES, focus first, then adjust CPL.
OH!! And get used to turning your CPL CCW, as oriented from your position to the camera. If you don't, you'll find your CPL crashing to the ground because you inadvertently unscrewed it from your lens.
