A friend of mine asked for help in getting a new camera. It sounds like a bridge camera is the way to go for him as he does not do very much photography. Can you please give me some recommendations on a good bridge camera..one that would have a fairly decent zoom on it also. He wants to do some wildlife photography besides people, etc. He has never had a dlsr camera and I don't think at his age he is interested in that much of a camera. I don't know anything about bridge cameras so I'm asking for your help. I'll be gone until this evening so I can't respond until then.
Thanks..Marsha

I own a Panasonic Lumix FZ200. The FX1000 has already been recommended too. There's a newer one the FZ330. Any of these three would be excellent choices. If I didn't already own the 200, I'd probably buy the 330. Look them up. Panasonic is running a special that some online stores may have, but check Panasonic's direct price first before you buy somewhere else.

I'm considering a Bridge in the future and was looking at the Panasonic FZ 300 "just out" at $600.00 because it is weather sealed, 25-600mm 2.8, and has RAW which most do not. Just in case he gets serious.!

Also Graham Houghton on U-tube has great video tutorials for this camera that really are a help to beginners.

Good luck, MakahaMan

got these cheap: Canon powershot SX30is & Fuji HS25EXR, medium format. I have been very happy with both. Easy to learn & very good photographs. I am trying different kinds of photography, so these cameras are doing a great job for me

inexperience person with a bridge camera that has a long zoom usually doesn't work too well. It takes a lot of skill to use those long zoom successfully. I would recommend a 3x or so zoom.

I, too, have a Lumix FZ200. It has 24x optical zoom, many modes, video capability and a constant 2.8 Aperture throughout the zoom. It's an awesome camera. I use it to shoot at concerts and professional football games.

I also very much like my Lumix FZ200 for most shooting situations, and an FZ70 for extreme telephoto shots. The FZ200 is compact and has many features, special settings, etc., and its lens is f2.8 throughout it's 25mm to 600mm zoom range. Since the FZ300 came out at about $600, the price on the FZ200 has dropped to less than $400 and the FZ70 less than $300 at B&H. I've seen sales on these cameras that knock another $50 off those prices. These cameras have small sensors and noise becomes an issue at higher ISOs, but shooting at 100 or 200 ISO produces some very nice images. The FZ300 has 5-way stabilization for the extra money. (Watch the cyber-sales this month!)

I don't quite understand what you are saying. If you read all the Panasonic literature on the FZ200, it states that the aperture can be set at 2.8 regardless of zoom.

Keep it simple...Sony offers the HX300 and HX400 both very easy to use. Both DSLR like in use and function with manual focus available with the lens barrel. I wouldn't focus just on distance (a big mistake) many with high zoom cameras make. Most time images at maximum zoom aren't that great. Look for features, build quality, image quality and ease of use for a beginner. Feel free to browse my images (links are below in my signature line) for sample images if your curious about the HX300. Good luck with your search. No matter what you come up with...it will take some time to learn the camera and photography in general. Most of all...have fun!

This seems like really good advise -- your pictures are amazing! What is the difference between the 300 and the 400 ?

Seems to be some confusion about the new Lumix upgrade from the FZ 200. Panasonic's site calls it the FZ 330, but B & H and Adorama have never heard of an FZ 330, instead listing an FZ 300 which seems to have the specs listed by Panasonic for the 330. Some review sites are calling it the same camera with different names. Big upgrade features include more weather-tight construction and the new 4k video option.
