Has anyone used this lens, and if so, what is your experience? I read in reviews that it is sharp. Is this true. I am considering it and would appreciate any comments that would help me decide either for or against the purchase. Thanks in advance.

I am using a Nikon D7100 and don't plan to buy any other body immediately.

I have one in my rental inventory, its quite sharp and fast focusing. Popular lens.
The only reason I don't use it myself is I like my Nikon 24-120mm F4 so much.

I researched extensively on the top four lenses in or near this focal range and ended up with the Sigma 24-105. Though I haven't much experience with this type of zoom, I am used to extremely sharp images from my macro shooting and this one is very sharp. Focusing is pretty quick and I was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed in fairly low light.

I could not find any real negatives concerning this lens.

I love mine, have absolutely no regrets and can highly recommend this lens.

BTW, I've used it on my 7100 as well as the 800e and 810 ;)

Thanks for the information. My only experience with a zoom in this range is with a kit lens, and I have been disappointed with the image quality, so I began using primes for IQ. But, for event shooting, walkaround, etc., I would like to have the zoom capability rather than carrying three lenses. This is why IQ is so important. Also, nice shots on your webpage.

Almost all of my lenses are primes. That's one reason I'm sort of spoiled concerning IQ. The Sigma 24-105 has not disappointed me in any way. I believe it even has a slight edge over the Nikon 24-120 for sharpness, though some may argue that point.

It is the 'standard' lens on my D750--I love it. Before I bought mine, I was using a borrowed Nikon 24-120mm, but buying the Sigma was a no-brainer after trying & comparing both. I find the Sigma to be tack sharp at all focal lengths & apertures (even wide open @ f4). You couldn't go wrong with it IMO. :-)

I bet you already had GAS. We are simply nurturing it and giving it direction  :-)

I shoot top primes on my Nikon 810: 3 Zeiss, the Sigma 35 & 50 art, and 7 nikons. I have the Canon 70-200 F2.8 for sports, but my only other zoom is the Sigma 24 -105(in Nikon). Despite my snobbery
& obsession with BIG prints, this is my go-to for family outings, events, etc. I rented the Nikon zoom (the one which goes to 120), and while it is nice, the Sigma prints if U have to go big are clearly sharper. I believe U will be very pleased with it.

The reviews of this lens are quite favorable re quality and build. Higher rated than the more expensive Canon 24-105 mm f/4 L lens that I have used on my Canon 60D. But I do not own it.

I recently bought the Sigma 17-50 mm f/2.8, which can be used on your camera but not full frame cameras, and have found it to be very sharp and functional. And of course lighter and wider than the 24 mm but a lot less than the 105 mm. I used it last weekend at a formal party with dancing that I attended and the results (with bounce flash) were outstanding.

To make this lens more useful as a walk-around lens I carry in my pocket a Kenko 1.4x extender that makes this lens equivalent to 112 mm f/4 on a full frame basis should I need something longer. Still not at 105 mm level but with cropping to make equivalent the quality is more than adequate. Oh, it is on sale for only $469 at B&H right now.

As an aside, I bought the Sigma 17-70 mm f/2.8-4 lens at B&H first, thinking the range would be better for me but the quality was not up to the standard I thought it would be. So I returned it and bought the 17-50 f/2.8 and got the result I sought.

Only negative is the weight of the lens. It is a bit on the heavy side.
After lugging it around all day, you will be ready to put it down, or one arm will be longer than the other.

I have had this exact combination for last 2 years. Lens is sharp, fast, high resolution. Not completely weather sealed but I have used it in wintertime Germany with snow and drizzle with no ill effects. Great image quality and capability, really is better than I am!

If I am not mistaken, this is the lens that Sigma says it is no longer making ........so availability may be an issue .....
