Recommendations for a DSLR Travel Tripod?

I'm interested in buying a new travel tripod which will be used for a Nikon Df with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens + teleconverter, probably with a ball head support. What do you recommend that's lightweight but sturdy enough to hold the camera and lens, and one that's fairly easy to set-up and knock-down and where the camera can be screwed-in without an allen wrench?

I recommend MeFoto travel tripod. I own several carbon fiber tripods, including gitzo and really right stuff carbon fiber tripods. I purchased this one this year because I needed sturdy, lightweight, easy to use. I used with canon 5dmkiii and several lenses, including 70-200 2.8. Great for travel. Can also convert to momopod, but I did not use this feature.

Hi,
I suppose you definitely want a tripod? Maybe consider a lightweight monopod? I use similar equipment (but Canon) and I find the monopod supports my 5D M III, with Canon L 70 - 200 f/2.8 and Extender 2X III. Just a thought. Here's a very sturdy, lightweight one.

Pockets' suggestion looks excellent. If I did not already own a mono & tripod, I'd opt for it myself!!

I'll vote with Pockets, MeFoto.

That looks like a nice tripod. When I went looking for a truly light-weight, I ended up with a monopod with feet. The feet are very stabilizing although I wouldn't walk away from it with the camera on it. I bought a small ball head that uses the same quick plates as my big tripod, so that was a real plus. The monopod has faults, but I do like it.

I have been quite pleased with my SIRUI T-025X. It's easy to set up and you can easily hang weight under it for stabilization and while you have to put the mount on the camera with an allen wrench it's easy to mount once you do. It's quite easy to travel with as it fits into my day packs and tank bag on my motorcycle. Having said that--it's still a travel tripod and not a full sized one so takes a little extra care in setting up the shot.

I just bought a carbon fiber Vanguard Veo Tripod with a ball head. It weighs 3# and holds up to 17.6#

I just wanted to thank everyone who provided advice about buying a new tripod, which I found very helpful. After doing considerable additional research online, I decided to buy a Manfrotto MK290LTA3-3WUS 290 Light with a 3-Way Head Kit, mainly because I wanted something that was small, lightweight, easy to store and reasonably stable. I've used it a few times indoors, and once I figured out how to open and properly set-up the three-way head's 2 compact "arms," I like it. I also found a short-time $20-off "sale" on Amazon, and only paid $130 for it. (The current price is about $150). It's small enough to fold-up and "hide" in my living room, and my wife hasn't complained about it yet.

What is your budget.?I would suggest a SIRUI T-1205X 5-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod. Cost around $290
