Is it possible or feasible to have a Nikon D3 updated to a D4? I saw an ad that said someone had done this, but I'm not sure exactly what it means. Was this a firmware update or does Nikon change sensor, etc?

You can buy a D4 and sell the D3.
But nobody can physically convert a D3 to a D4.
Yes people updated their camera all the time. Selling the current one and buying the new version.
Some one told me it only cost him 15% of the new price to make the move for 1 generation.
This person said they had updated the D3 to a D4. They did not change cameras.

You misunderstood what they meant, or they were very very confused about what actually took place. What you are suggesting is simply not possible.
The D3 and the D4 are totally different cameras, and virtually no parts will even fit into the mechanical structure of the other, much less work. The sensor is different. The shutter is different. The CPU is different. The AF system is different. The exposure metering system is different.
Not even the mechanical switches and buttons on the two cameras are designed the same!

Was that by any chance 4/1/15?
I just received a response from the person who wrote it, and it was a case of using an unclear statement. Thanks for your responses.

Nonsense. Whoever said he did that was grossly exaggerating. Maybe he transferred the D4 logo. Sell one and buy the other.
