Have been searching for a Nikon D70 (not D70s!) cable release. Does anyone out there know if such a critter exists? So far the only item I have found is the IR unit, which I have, but every time I need it, the battery is dead.

The IR release is all there is. Unless you want to shoot tethered or can find a third party intervalometer. I think there are a few DIY sites that will show you how to make your own.

there are third party cables that work well , but they do not hold up very well.

Here you go. This is what I have. http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-MC-DC1-Remote-Digital-Cameras/dp/B000A22V6Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334236262&sr=8-1

Take a look here. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=d70+interval+timer&_sacat=See-All-Categories

There are several brands, but I think they all come out of the same factory. I have two of these for different cameras, and they have worked fine. They're remotes and interval timers. I paid $16 for one and $35 for the other.
