Thanks for checking out Meives. That was my issue. I had the camera a long time so I have no concern. I only recently purchased the lens and found it hard to maneuvre - size, weight and focus. The Keeper rate had gone down.

I was hoping the issue is my skills with long lens, rather than the lens itself. So far all suggestions seem to confirm that.

I like to look at all the data to check things out. I don't know the quality of the Sigma 150-600 mm, but some lens have problems. I think your camera settings look OK. David

If you imagine a line from your eye to the birds eye, and another line from your eye to the tip of the beak - Are they the same distance? NO. The line to the beak is farther. This is clearly a Depth of Field issue. Smile

That isn't what I read. The comments suggest your skill is excellent...at least as far as the blur goes. It is simple movement of the beak. A good thing to capture.

But the white is bit blown. That is a camera use issue. With so much white you need to spot meter on the white and set the EV +1 or so (so it isn't gray).

I think 1/800 sec would freeze any movement.. hmm?

Yes, but the trade off is higher noise due to higher ISO. Movement isn't a bad thing.

This is taken with Nikon D7000 and Sigma 150-600mm C on a tripod. As indicated in EXIF, f 8.0 and 1/800 sec. Any idea why it is sharp around the eye and blurry at the beak? Thanks.

I'd think DoF is as much a problem, or the only problem, as is movement. If you're at or near 600mm, the DoF at f8 would be pretty limited. The feathers on the neck look soft but hard to tell with all the white and no contrast. Focus is absolutely dialed in on the eye, as it should be.
