Can anyone give me any advice of photographing a young asian girl in a studio and what sort of props could I make use of.

I am not a complete amateur, not a professional either, just keen to do a nice shot for this girl.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you

Go ahead, don't be shy, reveal to us what photo equipment you have. Portrait, nude, fassion???? Skin will be no problem, example... photo graph an Irish gal on a white background and you can not find them.... realistically very dark black skin is very difficult. Asian is great pigmentation.

Here is a chart with RGB #

If she uses a "earth tone like make up" find out which or get a sample so you can match....
All in all, who else beside you and the girl will know if you are wrong. Kermit the frog is a diff story... he demands perfection. Do enjoy your project and let it be a learning experience... I would start with a few quick snaps before the studio project.

ooops.... get Model release... and if underage get a parent sign-off. I went to a shoot and the gals were underage... perhaps 16-18... and moms were with them.. that is a comfortable way. They were part of a modeling class.

As for props-I would suggest perhaps whatever she has around the studio. What kind of a studio is it? Does she have favorite tools or implements?

How young is she? If she is pre-teen/teen, you can ask her to bring small items that identifies her interests. At any age, make sure they bring changes of outfits that cover the seasons of the year in addition to the current season, e.g. swinsuit, ski sweater, exercise clothes, school outfit.

Thanks for your help. I have a Nikon D810, 24-70 F2.8
Nikon 70-200 2.8 and various other good lenses. I will be using either a plain white or black background in a studio that we will set up ourselves. there will be a few of us taking shots (about 4).

We will be using a studio lighting set-up.

I have no props at all, sadly, I only have today to try and get something together but feel a bit 'stuck' for ideas
as to what to use as props to help my photography, hence why I was pressing the 'panic button'

I do very much appreciate your help.

We have used something as simple as a chair or table. Make it a session exploring facial expressions, shadows, etc.
i'm not sure what the purpose of the shoot would be, commercial use or personal portfolio, but try to do something that expresses that theme.
Good luck!

duplex, Could you explain why/how you use the rgb chart? Maybe in a different thread so we don't hijack this one?

Well since skin color is an issue having stated Asian Girl. Then it is information that is useful to the poster and thus not hijacking. Linda Ewing to get the "nice shot" that she wants, the skin will be an important factor; the girl is not Afro, not a Laplander .. to be a good shot requires a close match to her skin color. Props etc, minor... Topaz Remask can put the girl on mars or in a department store.... back ground is minor as long as it contrasts with the skin... not the same color.

Eye dropper: move it around on any photo in your PSE or other good edit program there will be #s those are the RGB #s that mean the same to me as Joe Schmoes.

Go to bucket fill or color change tool... click on a color and the chart below will appear. You can type in the values and it will auto find that color in the great color fan... broad edu see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RGB_color_model
What you will see when you click the eyedropper on one of the color sq that appear when you have chosen color exchange tool is show below. If you know from a match chart what the "Asian Girls" skin #s are then you can match it precisely (close at least).

This may help to understand what the # mean, note that there are many tutorials with in the left margin:

Ask the young woman what her interests/hobbies are. Perhaps this could give you an idea for a prop that directly relates to her life and what is important to her. For example, if she's serious about tennis, a tennis racket could be used as a prop.

Asia is a very large continent with peoples of varied skin colors. Is she a dark northern Asian girl or light southeast Asian. She could be anywhere from white to dark brown. Each has its own challenges. If you can't think of anything else, shoot green-screen at various exposures and add appropriate backgrounds in post processing.
