Mold? mildew??? Good luck.

As far as know scanning outfits do a minimal cleaning (dusting) but do not correct the slides defects or damages as this is another expensive service.

Prior to doing my own scans, I used ScanCafe quite a lot. They always clean the negs or slides and are doing a good job at that, their scan's are ok as well! Good outfit to do business with!

I don't know if they clean the transparencies, but Southern Photo in Melbourne will scan your transparencies, and they do a pretty good job.

I have used Scan Café and the results were good.

Why don't you call them and ask about slides that
are damaged?

JPEG files they send you are only as good as the
original picture you took. Files also are very large.

I had about 3000 slides taken starting in early 1970's through about 1985 with most being taken while on business trips to other countries. The slides had been stored in carousals in my closet and I hadn't looked at them in probably 15 years so decided to digitize them. Many of the slides were totally ruined and many of the others faded to various degrees. Knowing that I would have to work on each one I decided to scan them myself using my Epson V500 scanner. It will scan 4 at a time and does a great job of scanning what it sees, defects and all. I then spent many hours working with the slides on my computer trying to salvage what I could. Most of the really "bad" slides were taken with film purchased in other countries.

I do a lot of scanning of my own photos and have sent a lot to Scan Café to save some of my time I guess.

The cost is very good since the do the work in India.

Their work with B&W is very good, I have not been able to remove scratches & dust much better than I could.

Their work with color negatives seems all right.

They do over crop photos I checked some 35mm negatives which were scanned at 0.91x1.318" (23.11 x 34.24mm) which is smaller than the picture area of any 35mm cameras. The slides are typically scanned at about 0.808X1.222"
which is far smaller than the slide mounts show. I guess that saves them time in post processing. I had to rescan one of my slide because the composition got ruined which their scan.

I sometimes have to post process the slides they scan, change brightness, contrast, do the fill flash adjust, change color or add vibrancy. Some of these were probably not exposed correctly to begin with. In some cases I wanted the scan to look more like the slide not the way that they saw it.
I have had them do a few scans that I could not do any thing I liked but they did a better job.
They will offer to restore pictures (at a cost) I did it once to restore a scan from a copy negative of a faded print from the early 1950's. It made a good picture.

Cleaning they do some dusting.
They do not clean mildew or mold to do that involves removing the emulsion.
