Hello friends. I own a Fuji XT-1 with the kit lens...18-55. I'm enjoying the camera and have started to prefer it to my larger DSLR for travel, specifically. I am starting to look at the 35mm f1.4XF R lens at b & h. The lens is priced at $599 so it is a purchase that I need to think about and be sure of. One of the b&h people said that sometimes Fuji offers a rebate, but he couldn't tell me if anything like that was coming up soon or not. Do any of you have this lens, and if you do...are you happy with it? I welcome any thoughts you might be able to share. Thank you.

I have the XT-1 with 18-135. It feels a bit too bulky. You did the right thing by going for 18-55.

For the 35 mm lense one option is Amazon seems to have few used lenses from $380. Look into it. If you want a new one goto www.greentoe.com and post a price you are willing to pay for a new lense. Repeated dealers comeback with best prices they can give. If you match you buy at that price. I bought my XT-1 and lense using that site from a reputed dealer in New Jersy. You can try that also.

Good luck with the new purchase.

I am a Fuji shooter. I have the X100T now, so don't have any of the current lenses. In the past I had an XE-2 with a few lenses such as the 10-24 and 14mm.........both fine lenses.

If you are not aware of the Fuji Forum, I suggest you go there and read many threads about the lenses available today.

The 35 is a must have, my favorite lens by far. Zach Arias shoots fuji and here is his take on the lenses. http://dedpxl.com/fuji-x-buyers-guide-part-2-lenses/

I don't have the 35mm because that FOV doesn't work for me, but everyone who has one seems to absolutely love it. Its IQ is gorgeous and it's *fast*! I just saw the lens mounted on an X-T10, and it's a smallish size, so it won't make a bulky combo.

If you go on the fujix-forum, and look at the classifieds section, I believe you can have a used copy for ~$350. Also look on eBay. People tend to take really good care of their lenses, I have never had an issue buying used.

Fujix-forum is a great place for all things Fuji.

The FX 35mm f/1.4 is a fine, wonderful lens but there are a few other choices around this focal length.
The New XF 35mm f/2 is out and cheaper (in price only) $399. It is WR, faster more accurate focus, sharper in the center. You lose a f-stop but ?
The Zeiss Touit 32mm is going for about $499 now. It originally came out at $900. Price drop because Zeiss is dropping the X mount Touits. The Touits have a different image flavor than the Fujis. I have the 12mm and will not part with it.
And the XF 27mm pancake. IQ rivals the 35mm 1.4. Super small, inconspicuous. No aperture ring. Great daily run around lens. The price has been down to $200 and was $249 just recently. Should be able to find used cheap.

So for an f/1.4 normal lens it's more expensive than a full frame system like Canon, Nikon or Sony.

Set your 18-55 @ 35mm for a week, shoot at the lowest aperture and ask yourself if you need the extra speed. I'm a fan of shooting wide open at fast apertures, but not everyone likes to do that.

Given that if you have the latest firmware, you can shoot at 1/32000 sec, shooting wide open on a bright day should be no problem.

I bought the 35 F1.4 originally with the X Pro 1; it is a brilliant lens- I have a 60mm Macro, and the 18-55 as well. Makes a great travell kit, very light.

I have not tried Sony, but I am a Fuji shooter and have just recently seen an X-T10. It is fantastic, but *small*! I would go and try it, to make sure the size is right for you. Interestingly, the Fuji lenses, even the 18-135mm zoom, are absolutely not overwhelming on the X-T10.

Re: 27mm Fuji. I agree that IQ is terrific, but I don't think bokeh matches that of some other Fuji primes. I have personally found it slow, so I second the recommendation to shoot at no faster than f/2.8 to see if that works for you. (I just sold my 27mm to a serious photographer who told me I should have just cranked up the ISO.)

One suggestion would be to try shooting your current lens at 23mm for a day (35 mm full frame equivalent) and then at 35mm (the 50 mm full frame equivalent) to see which you like.

Both the 23 and 35 are beautiful lenses. I own the 35 and find it a little long for events like a holiday gathering around the dining room table. I don't own the 23 but am looking at it for that reason.

With the 35 I've taken graduation pictures for grand kids, nieces and nephews. The bokeh and sharpness are excellent.

I also have the little 27 which is a great lens for walk around shooting. It won't give you an artistic background blur but it is sharp as a tac for sight seeing.

Hope that helps a little bit - enjoy your camera!

Two more Fuji X forums:

http://www.fujixseries.com/

and

http://www.fujix-forum.com/

Check KEH. Was looking at their Fuji stuff yesterday.

Frankly, I know how enthused people get about the Fuji primes, but I personally would not use anything other than the 18-55 f2.8. Good glass, good range covering many of the primes, and fast lens all the way.

Again, as I say personally, I would never spend that kind of money to limit myself to one focal length. But that's a money/focal length flexibility issue. Buy prime and the next thing I know, I'm running into subjects that I'd prefer a different focal length on. Subjective, not objective. Easy to have $2000 wrapped up 3 or 4 primes within the range of the 18-55 fast lens for $300. (What I paid)

Fujinon glass has been some of the best for decades and also in large format. The EBC antiflare coating is on all Fuji glass since about 30 years ago.

I think about half of those claims of better primes than in the equivalent focal length of the 18-55 are simply statements to justify mass expenditure unnecessarily. Good glass is good glass and Fujinon glass is among the best, if not the.....

Been shooting Fujinon since the late 60's.

You might want to see if those forums have classifieds.
