Canon 40D compaired to 50D

I own the 50D and love it. Have found a 40D I am thinking about and was wondering how much difference there is between them.

From what I have been reading the 10 to 15 meg photo size doesn't make much difference in the photo quality, in fact, some reviews actually say the 40D is better. Even handles noise better.

Any thoughts?

I have both the 40d and the 50d I like both of them. I think the 40d has a little better noise handling than the 50. The quality of the images is not much different between the 2. There really is not much difference between the 2 cameras, except the xtra MP of the 50.

I know that this isn't what you were asking about but what about the 5D classic?

That's better at noise handling and has exceptional image quality too boot.

You can get them for a song on Ebay (500.00 - 750.00)

I found this one for $400.00, is that a good price? It has a shutter count of 30704 but life expectdency is said to be 100,000 so not too worried about that.

For a 50D? I have no idea. I've only researched the 5D classic and it's got a cult following for a reason.

There are photog's on my forum that use the 40D and it takes marvelous images. In the hands of a good photographer. There are few substantive differences between the two cameras. The lower noise factor comes from having fewer pixels on the same size CMOS chip, thus decreasing electronic cross-over noise.

My backup camera is a D60 (not the 60D) and still takes great pics with the same lenses as my 50D.

So I would say the 40D is a good choice for a backup.

I would not hesitate to grab a 40D if it's in like new condition. It's still a great camera.
$400 sounds maybe a little high but not totally out of line.
I have a 30D that I only use now for making time lapse videos, but that was a great camera and I think the 40D is even better.

Thank you, I forgot about that feature.

Outside of image size I do not see much difference in them.

Think I am going to pick it up today.

I think the following is because it was the first reasonably priced full frame camera Canon had. I have been happy with the APS-C sensor so think I will stick with it for now.

For nature photos, and I could be wrong, I don't see a lot of advantages in going full frame.

I have had the 20, 30, 40, 50, 7D and now the D60. Liked the 30, didn't like the 40, maybe I had a bummer, liked the 50, 7D, but because of the weight I stayed with the D60. Anyway had fun playing with them. Bee
