I ran across this place near the Pensacola Dam that restores vintage wood boats. Mostly Chris Craft but others as well. The owner claims that this particular boat was once owned by Al Capone and later by Walt Disney Jr.. Not really sure how much of that I believe but the boat was pretty cool....

not saying that it not one of Capone's Boats ,but he had 2 yacths .One was the Isda Moreda AKA as the Santana (wooden Hull) built in New England a lot bigger than then on shown and still running doing tours. The other was a steel hull that was built in New York called Acania.Although it was rumored that he owned it,was never a fact,as it was registered by a Mr, Wheeler (I think) but Capone seemed to use it quite a bit.I think I read somewhere that the Acania is now being refitted back to original in California. Diesel engines and all.

I pulled up images of the Isda Moreda.... Very nice! You are also correct about the Acania. Should be pretty sharp when they finish the resto...

Very nice photo. I see it as a variation of an old barn picture.

ajohnston3, this is a nice picture of the vintage wood boat, interesting subject too! This would be one beautiful boat restored, but big dollars to do so and to maintain afterwards. Thanks for sharing. Tejaswrangler :)

Thanks, Love them too. Always a good opp. I did see some old farm house / barn stuff (area 1st settled in the 1870's) but nothing close enough to a public access point to shoot. (my wife was with me.. :) )

Thanks... I can't imagine the effort required... It would be akin to restoring a P-38 salvaged from the North sea...

The guy (Dave?) I spoke to who worked for the owner of the shop looked capable of a 'fish story' or two.... Great guy, btw..... Very kind to let us peruse the facility.

If your ever around that area again, see if you can get aboard and see if you can see a registration number. In those days they usually were carved on an overhead beam in the forward cabin or in the engine room. .With the number you could trace her life story. That ship could have been a part of his rum running fleet. With the right engines it looks that it would be capable of attaining a good speed. She looks to be in the vicinity of 40 feet with a beam of around 16 to 18. She most likely was use in the inland waterway or as a coastal.
