It depends on what your PP System is, and what you want to achieve with it. First define your needs, then buy the software that will fulfill them.

It is highly important to be in keeping with UHH tradition to never give any details regarding equipment, OP systems, computer capabilities, final objective.

In this way you can keep the UHH people jumping thru hoops to answer a question never asked.

Also never thank the people for giving of their time answering a question never really asked. These are good people!! Eventually give them details so that they can answer a good question.

My reply: If you are still using DOS do not bother with PSE 14. If you have PS in cloud do not get 14. If you are an accountant and do not do photography ... No do not get PSE 14.

NOW: get with the program and give details... do not expect us to be mind readers.... :?:

which brings me to my question -- sarcasm aside -- should i spring for pse 14 or go for the cc version? i have pse 13 & in watching videos on how to do masking & layers i see that there definitely is photoshop functionality not in elements' versions. in hoggers' estimable opinions, is there enough value added to the cc photoshop that it is worth $10/mo?

Elements vs Photoshop? "Gee, I coulda had a V-8!"

In my opinion:

Why go with a scaled down version when for 10.00 a month you can have Lightroom, always current and updated, Bridge, always current and updated, and Photoshop always current and updated?

BTW - I started with PSE 8, 10,11, & 12, still have them, but now when I want to finish a photo I go to Photoshop 2015 CC from Lightroom CC.

10.00 a month is cheap in my opinion for the value that I get.

actually, i drive a v4, because i drive manual & don't want to pollute the air as much as a v8 would ;-)

anyway, i have lightroom 6, so i have paid a fair amount already. but you have begun to convince me that i should stop upgrading the individual pieces & start looking toward the full cc. thanks!

And you have already seen that there are built in functions in the CC versions that are missing from the standalone, and that will only continue as time goes by.

Corel PaintShop Pro X8 Ultimate for $99, a one time purchase rather than spending $120/year for the rest of your life. Better than Elements & not far behind Photoshop if at all. It has layers & curves and most of the Photoshop tools. PSP and Photoshop are quite similar. I have seen a few interesting Photoshop tutorials & hints in other blogs and magazines, I can follow the directions in PSP using the Photoshop instructions basically step for step and get the same results.
