What distance from subject? ALL three images appear quite dark on my calibrated monitor.

Have you considered an inexpensive "Better Beamer" speedlight attachment, to illuminate subject?
The Fresnel lens focuses speedlight illumination long distance.

What does that mean? I use a Better Beamer on both my Nikon SB-600, and the more powerful Nissin Di866, both on manual, so I can select the flash output. I also select the camera lens aperture (f/stop) that I wish to use.

You can't change the f stops on this lens , it only changes as you increase the zoom...I didn't use a flash because I wanted to see how low a light it would be serviceable...thank you for looking....

Left out one piece of data. The guide to shutter speed is 1/mm lens. Since you shot at 420 the shutter should be 1/420 or faster. I was 1/320. David f stop of 8.3 did not show in your exif files.

The info didn't show because it's a all manual practica mount lens....at 420mm it's at 8.3f stop....
