Anyone experienced with MacBook Pro 15" Retina display?

My six-year-old MacBook Pro (17-inch) needs its logic board replaced (a $600 cost). I'm considering replacing the whole thing with a MBP 15" retina. Does anyone use this model? If so, how do you like it for PP? Thank you ...

I would do it in a heartbeat and never look back. I use a 15" MBP for work, in fact, using it right now. Don't tell my boss. It is connected to 2, 27" Thunderbolt displays. When I take it home at the end of the day, I love the Retina display. Let us know if you take the plunge. ;-) Cheers.

Thanks. The two Thunderbolts must be spectacular. What do you use them for?

I'm a Program Administrator, so have many documents open at any one time. Also databases. Sure helps to see them side be side at times. ;-) Especially as my eyes get older. LOL Cheers.

I agree with others, Love my 15 MBP, I will say to build it out when you buy. I upgraded mine to a 1TB SSD, and 16GIG of RAM.

Thank you. And you like it for post processing?

Processing abilities yes, but a laptop screen is way to small to process photos on. I use a HDMI connected widescreen monitor for PP work.

The first thing I would do it talk to Apple. I had a similar issue four years ago with my Apple. The circuit board by the power plug area had cracked. I sent in the computer, got it back in two days, they replaced the entire logic board and didn't charge me anything saying there was a quality control issue on record for these boards and they were replacing them for free.

Otherwise, yes, the retina display, max out the RAM, and go with th I7. It is a dream.

I respectfully disagree. I have a MBP 15" built in late 2013. I bought mine at an Apple Store with a big hard drive and maxed out at 16 gigs of RAM. I do post with it every day and it's awesome. The Retina display is dazzling.

The 17" is out of production.

I just replaced my 4 year old 17" MBP (retina display- 8 G Ram) with the 15" MBP with retina display, 16 G Ram, SS drive. It is just large enough to do PP- wouldn't want it to be any smaller though. The trade in screen size was offset by the reduction in weight. The SS drive and increased Ram makes a big difference-good move for me.

I agree with others who like their 15" MacBookPro retina display for photo processing. Also agree that you should buy the MAX possible. My mid 2014 model has 16G RAM, 2.8GHz quad core i7, and 1TB flash storage.

However, act quickly before Apple takes more things away. When I replaced a ~4 year old 15" MacBook Pro, the following features were gone:
- DVD Drive (Now need to carry an external one if needed)
- Matte screen that minimizes reflections
- IR port and remote control useful for flipping through pictures in Aperture slide shows
- Eject button
- Sleep indicator (oscillating white LED)
- wide magsafe power connector, now a narrow one that unplugs too easily and the cord insulation still frays
- Battery hours remaining indication (only % now)
- Battery charge indicator LEDs with push button
- Replaceable battery disappeared in a previous version.

And none of the Genii at the Apple store could recommend any work-arounds.
