I've been doing allot of studying for my new camera the T2i. A software package called the Magic lantern keeps coming up. Could I please get some feedback on this subject?

Never heard of it, except a Fisher Price program.

Magic Lantern is well worth the cost. If they have a DVD dedicated to your model camera you will have step by step instructions on each function. 5 stars in my opinion

I have the paper back guide and it's quite good but the DVD at 147.00 is a little pricy.

Magic Lantern is a firmware add-on that runs along side the Canon firmware. I haven't used it with my T2i yet, but have been thinking about it. I have run the '400 plus' firmware for the Xti.

It has focus assist tools, trap focus, additional bracketing, HDR tools. Here's a link to the download page:

I just got one for my camera. So far it has been very good. Much better than the camera manual. I would recommend it.

Look on EBAY and Amazon....I believe you can find for less than that.

We recently purchased two Magic Lantern booklets for our cameras. In contrast to the owner's manual, it is well-written, easily understandable, more durable, and practical for carrying around. The print is also larger. The down-side to the CD is the fact you must have a computer available.

You might consider trying to locate a "cheat sheet" for your particular make and model. They fold up nicely to fit in your pocket or camera bag.

I bought a magic lantern guide for my camera and it's helpful except for one thing. the index stinks. when i want a specific answer I have to wade thru the table of contents to find the general topic.

As the other poster said..Magic Lantern isn't the instructional books but a "run along side" firmware for Canon cameras that extends their capability.

Trap focus, motion detection, up to 9 exposures each direction on a bracket shot.

And much more.

I ran it for awhile...it's cool.

I'm wondering if the original poster was inquiring about the book and the CD, or the supplemental firmware that adds features and functions to the camera? I know there is quite a following for the firmware. The supplemental firmware should be a free download at the above link. There should be instructions on how to install and use it, along with a few caveats on how not to turn your camera into a brick.
