Hello all,
I'm new here and this is my first real post, so bear with me if I'm in the wrong area.
As some of you may have read in my intro forum posts, I have a new PC coming. I will be trying a new photo program as well. I had many of my photo friends at work suggest LR, but my personal experiences with Photoshop products has not been good. Just too complicated for this old dumb guy to get the hang of. This was made even worse by the fact that I am self taught in everything. I had been using Capture NX2, but it is my understanding that it no longer exsists in the form to which I am accustomed... and again I have struggled with using it too. Once more I found it just to complicated and hard to learn. So this time I'm going to try Corel. I have read good things about them and thought I would give their PSP a try, besides what have I got to lose?

Anyone have any feedback here about the PaintShop pro line?

To me it looks like it may just be a kind of do all program, that will organize, convert raw and make adjustments too. This is something I have been hoping for. I'm also hoping its simple to use as well.
Is this being too optimistic? Thanks for any advice you can give.

I have PSP X7 and will upgrade to X8 soon, I think you will like it just fine and you are not being too optimistic. Just download the free 30 day trial before you buy and wait till black Friday, it might go on sale with a lower price at that time.

Yup, PSP works well for me and it takes Topaz plugins too.

Thanks. Not a bad idea, but I didn't think of that and already purchased a copy.

I think any photo program will have a learning curve that you will have to get thru.
I have used Paint Shop Pro for years and I'm used to it. Tried to change one time. Didn't like the learning curve so I'm back to PS Pro.
I slowly learning (new to me) stuff in the program.
I will stick with it.

The truth, I know. I'm hoping PSP will be a little more intuitive than I have found Photoshop or NX2 to be.

You will love Paintshop Pro. It lets you get as complex or simple as you want with great results. You just have to work with it a little bit. The "one-step photo fix" will appeal to you.

I bought PSP X3 many years ago for my old computer. About three years ago I bought a new Dell laptop & bundled it with PSE 9 at a discount price. Used that until I bought my Nikon D610; PSE9 could not open the NEF files from the D610 and could not be upgraded to open them so I just shot JPEGs for a while. Recently I bought PSP X7 Ultimate on clearance for something like $39 just before PSP X8 came out (I like cheap and try to avoid paying top dollar just to have the "latest & greatest" technology).

I am pretty happy with PSE X7. It seems to do everything my old PSE 9 did w/o much of a learning curve. I have never taken any tutorials or bought a "For Dummies" type book on any of my photo editing software, I just figured things out for myself using trial and (lots of) error. I decided to improve my photo editing skills so I started reading the Corel PSP tutorials, lots of good stuff there that makes the editing go a lot better. Here is the link if you want to give them a try, it is updated for PSP X8. I just read the text-based tutorials at the bottom of the page, the videos at the top don't seem clear enough on my computer to see much of what is going on:

Thanks houdel this is just what I was hoping to hear someone say about PSP. I have been on their web site and that was one of the things that convinced me to try their products.

I too could never get into photoshop ,LR included, couldn't get past the learning curve. I have always used PSP and it does well. I also use ACDsee for raw conversion, it is better than PSP for that.(imo). I use them as a team and it does all I need.

I have it on my laptop which is Windows 10 but not on my desktop iMac because they don't make a version for the Mac, wish they did. P.S. I will not use parallels.
