Regis - with 1/60, I assume you did use a tripod. I was out tonight with my 5D III, same lens but no extender - my exposure was 1/400. F8, ISO 100. With Lightroom I used max contrast, moderate sharpening. I didn't get the crisp sharpness that you were able to get. Mayb e I should use a tripod and the 1.4. Any thoughts?
Thank you, Doug.
I haven't used a tripod for 6 years for any of my photos. You don't need an Extender. Your exposure should be between 100-250. F8 to F12 is good. ISO 100 to 200 is good. Must use spot metering and program mode. Focus on different moon parts using spot metering and take at least a dozen shots.
Sometimes if you focus on the moon craters (edge of moon) you will have a sharper photo. Go to photo shop elements and use contrast to tone down the brightness, then use some sharpness (not to much). I use a Barska pistol grip attached to my lens and sometimes I will lean against my utility shed or a awning post for steadiness. Not all my shots turn out well, that's why I take about a dozen shots. Then I know at least a few of them will turn out OK. I have very steady hands. I recommend using a tripod for most people.
