Morning Mist on the Boat House

Fly fishing is my second addiction--the first is photography. While floating in my drift boat on a well known fly fishing river in northeastern California, I drifted by this old boat house. The morning was foggy, misty and dull. Its early autumn and some of the trees were showing their change. The scene, while foggy, was almost bright white.

I did some creative cropping, played with the levels and finally used the glamour glow filter in Nik. I briefly thought of bringing out some of the detail in the boat house, but decided to leave some mystery in the image, and settled for just a hint of detail.

I'm fairly satisfied with the final image. What do you think?

Dennis, this is a nice tranquil scene. Very nice placement of the main subject horizontally. I generally don't like the horizon line to split the image midway vertically, but in this case the reflection of the building offsets the vertical placement. Very nicely done.

I like the look of this very much. Quite dramatic. For composition, I'd like just a touch more breathing room at the top so barn roof isn't so close to edge of frame. But it's very appealing overall.

As long as your happy with it that's what really counts IC. I would kinda like to see a little of that fog I see in the background. Hey......did ya catch any fish?

Yes, I caught fish. Some, rather large. But, I'm a catch-and-release guy rather than catch-and-cook.

I basically like the picture! That said, I may be a little confused by its title and the fact that "The morning was foggy, misty and dull." Without seeing the original capture I can't tell, but it would seem that you cleaned up/cut through the fog. If you did, that's fine, but I have seen some wonderful, mysterious pictures taken in fog that were beautiful. Again, without seeing the scene as it was I can't be sure, but if you cleaned everything up you may have removed some of the mysterious charm? I like the picture as is, but I wonder if less might have been more?
