Wild and Free--Horse Composite

I enjoy creating composites. Am I a master at it? Hardly. Yet, I still keep doing it. Its like an addiction.

Many of my images are horses. I have a folder with nothing but cut out horses. Thankfully, PS CC makes cutting out horses with wispy manes fairly easy.

In the image here, I have taken a spring scene (from my backyard) of mustard grass overtaking a hillside. A spring storm is brewing. The dead trees are from a wildfire. Originally, I captured the scene because of the dramatic clouds from the spring storm. After viewing the image and making some adjustments, it seemed empty. It needed a focal point. Thus, the horse was added.

The horse was originally photographed on a bright, sunny day. My challenge was to adjust the light on the horse to a more back lite image. I needed to make the bright horse a dark horse with some shadows. I also needed to clone some of the grass around the horses legs.

I like the final image. Those of you who are experts might have some suggestions for me.

As always, CC is appreciated.

Fantastic job. The horse seems totally natural!

I like a lot about this; however it's just a bit too busy for me. I tried cropping some sky and the foreground dead tree branches on right side, and prefer that.

I like your suggestion, but I think I'd go the opposite way and crop from the bottom. I like the dramatic sky better than the mustard grass.

thanks for your input

Wonderfully done. IC that top left cloud looks a little funky but I like everything as is.

I agree the cloud looks a little strange. The only PP on the sky was some levels adjustments. Maybe I went to far. The sun is right behind that area, so it could be from the bright setting sun.
