I like museums. Its always a challenge to fine something to photograph. Often, items are taken out of their element and its just darn hard to make anything creative from it/them.
While visiting the Oregon coast I visited a museum which depicted an early settler home of the late 1800's. It was a restored home with original furnishings. In the image I have here, the museum and this room was not as dark as it appears. I went low key to try to keep some of the distractions away from my main focus, the rocker.
It reminded me of a time when my mother would sit in her rocker, by the light of the window, and knit. It brought back a few memories.
As always, CC is appreciated.
You caught some great textures, lines and light. Very interesting shot!
On first view it looked a little dark but have to admit that's what sets the mood so very well.
This is a good photograph. And nice personal little story about your thoughts of capturing the image.
Yes... I do like this.
I think it's a great shot, but my initial reaction was that the bright curtains at the top maybe pulled too much attention away from the rocker. As it happened I had to scroll up to see the whole thing, and in the process accidentally cropped it to a square, with the brightest areas of curtain cropped out. To my mind that is all it needs. The curtains and the play of light on the rocker are all still there, but cropped square (I think) all the attention goes to the main subject. Just a thought... :)
Edit: (Thought of something else; you could of course just "print down" the upper part of the picture, but I suspect that might just look muddy and still pull too much attention away from the rocker...)

Thanks for the memories. I would have liked to see a little more detail in the wood. This looks like the "parlor set" (as it was called back then) that I inherited from my grandmother about 60 years ago.
I really like your composition. Don't crop anything. The full length of the drapes give more dimension and depth to the chair.

I like this image. It made me think of the mansion on the hill behind the Bates Motel in Psycho.
I love your photo...I think the lighting is great and it really does set the mood. The shadows in the curtains are perfect as they tone down the brightness of the white. Great job..
