Recently moved here and I'm loving it.... on a clear day I can see Mt. Baker (87 miles away as the crow flies) plus I get the extra added benefit of these visitors almost daily .... posted just for fun. I already know these aren't pro quality. :)

Thanks! They're "okay"... not great... but worth looking at I suppose. Taken with my little Oly point and shoot with a small amount of post processing on the Mt Baker shot. Momma and baby deer shot was taken out my dining room window. I left that small "clip" of my window curtains in there to give an idea of just how close to the house they were. Those two visit pretty regularly. I did have a different Momma with twin fawns and a buck a couple days ago. First buck I've seen since I got here Labor Day weekend. His horns hadn't branched. I don't know what that means in "deer speak"... but at first I thought he only had one horn (until I looked at the pictures I took of him).
There are no words invented yet to describe how lovely Port Angeles is... in every way.... the scenery - yes, absolutely, but the people are amazing. I moved here from Texas and everyone says the people in Texas are friendly... and they are.... but Port Angeles people put TX to shame in the "friendly" dept. So I found the perfect house, in the perfect location.

Love the shots of the deer. They seem to enjoy your place.

I just laid 500 square feet of sod and found out the deer don't chew off the grass, they pull out what they intend to eat.
Man, did they do a job of tearing up the lawn until I put some electric fence up.
Funny thing, they don't seem to tear up the native grasses.

Having move to Oregon from TX I can agree with you as many 'CA' staters and Canadians have moved to Texas and have increased the population so much it reminds me of Phoenix and Las Vegas withs many new people causing changes from what a state used to be.

I'm a native Californian so I'm much happier on the LEFT coast than I ended up being in TX. :D

The deer were an extra added benefit we got when we bought this house. We thought we were just getting a cute cottage with a lovely view. We didn't know we also got local wildlife. Since the lawn is already established, the deer aren't hurting it at all. In fact, they're keeping things from overgrowing and eating the weeds so.. they're actually doing me a favor. I've put out a salt lick for them and the occasional apple or two. Small payment for the joy they bring when I see them here.

Most fencing won't stop a deer. We have a small garden (not of the edible variety) that is surrounded on two sides by a six foot fence and on the third side by the house. There is a small area with a very low fence on the fourth side by the driveway (between the house and the garage) that they could jump if they were so inclined, but I think the close proximity to humans keeps them out.

I caught Momma and her baby on video leaping over the driveway fence on the downslope which is about 5 feet high a few days ago. I figured Momma would make it, I wasn't so sure about baby... but he/she cleared it with only a small amount of difficulty (hit the back leg near their foot as they were clearing it)...but by that point gravity took over and they landed just fine on the other side. It is amazing to watch them jump a fence... they make it look so easy... like they're suddenly got invisible wings.
