The Empress at Sunset

This is the Fairmont Empress in Victoria, Canada. I was lucky enough to stay there for one night before our cruise to Alaska a couple of years ago. (Still working my way through the pics.)
The light at sunset was incredible but it only lasted at its best for 3 or 4 minutes and luckily I was there at the time. Usual -2/0/+2
exposure. Photomatix then into Photoshop as a tif. Denoised then into Topaz Detail to lift the medium details and pull back the yellows a tad. Removed some distortions, cleaned up the branches on the right and a slight touch of unsharp mask. This is how it ended up. All feedback welcomed.

Good morning from the Pacific N.W. Quite a change from the original photo, which really brought life to the photo.

Personally I feel the color cast is too strong, and some of it needs to be removed. But that is just my visual feeling in viewing the photo.

Nice job on correcting the verticals Peter.

Gaylord, great to hear from you. Glad you noticed the verticals, I still spend hours getting them right. As for the colour cast its quite interesting and probably a little subjective. I agree there is an orange/yellow cast to the pic but when I remove it or even tone it down a little I end up losing the glow. And its the glow that I remember most clearly from when I was there. So I opted to leave the colour cast as it was but I accept that that is a personal preference. Many thanks for your input, I can always depend on you to actually look carefully at an image and make thoughtful comments.

Catch you soon.
