Does anyone with experience with selling stock photos want to share their experience?
I would like to know if it's worth the effort to get involved with selling this way and what the best way to succeed could be - aside from having the most creative, most high definition, high quality shots on the market.
Any help will be appreciated.

I sold a few, you need to invest time and get your shots nearly perfect. They do have guidelines they follow. I made enough extra cash last year to take our family of 5 to Universal Studio for 5 days.

I've sold a few stock photos but not enough to pay for a vacation!
I think you named it re: creative, high def., high quality. "All-American family" kinds of photos probably have the most appeal. I read about a photographer who makes mucho $ by staging those kinds of pics.exclusively.
Google the subject. Perhaps you'll find more specific information.
God luck.

I know someone that did make $3k on one stock image, but most only net her about $35 or so. It was enough to pay for most of her new camera body.

I just got this in my email. It may help.

Turn Your Photos into Highly Saleable, Professional-Looking Stock
Images In Three Minutes or Less!

Dear Billy Bob,

If you want to make money from your photos, stock photo sites are a
great way to start.

You don't have to worry about printing, contacting editors, or
selling. All you do is upload your photos to a few websites and they
handle the rest. Your images sell over and over again... even while
you sleep.

The toughest part is getting your images accepted into these sites.
Most people don’t know where to begin. And their photos get rejected
for simple mistakes they could have easily fixed before submitting
them.

That’s where our Quick and Dirty Video Guide to Stock Photo Processing
comes in. And while we’re announcing the all-new second edition,
you’ll save over 20% when you grab a copy this week here:
http://www.thephotographerslife.com/qdv/getstarted

Following just seven simple, straightforward videos, you'll learn how
to...

** Edit your photos for sale to online stock photo agencies in three
minutes or less...

** Make your photos "pop" like the pros do with a few simple tweaks in
Lightroom...

** Remove logos, power lines, or blemishes the easy way in
Photoshop...

** Fix all the simple mistakes that often result in unwanted
rejections, such as
crooked horizons, improper exposure, grayish color, and more...

** Speed up your processing time so you can spend more time shooting
and less time in front of the computer...

** And much more!

If you don’t own Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop, no problem. You can
download a 30-day trial on the Adobe website before you begin.

You’ll realize right away that Lightroom is an essential tool in
processing your images for stock.

But even if you decide to use another photo editing program like
Picasa or Photoshop Elements, the things you learn in The Quick and
Dirty Video Guide to Stock Photo Processing will still apply.

Your icons and menus may be in a different place, but the concepts
(and the techniques you should use to edit your photos for sale to
online stock photo agencies) don’t change just because you’re using a
different program.

What’s more, when you sign up for the new second edition of The Quick
and Dirty Video Guide to Stock Photo Processing today you'll also get
several bonuses, including:

** Stock Sales Made Simple – Full of tips, rules, and guidance
straight from five of the industry's top stock agencies, Stock Sales
Made Simple makes it easy to take the step from great looking photos
to money in your pocket, including step-by-step stock submission
instructions. (A $19 value – yours FREE.)

** Five Photo Critique Credits from the professional photographers at
UnlimitedPhotoCritiques.com. Each credit entitles you to a
professional review of your photo, so you can skip the rejections and
get started on the right foot. (A $35 value – yours FREE.)

** Access to the first edition of the program, which includes five
videos on how to process your photos in Lightroom 2, in case you still
have this older version of the Adobe program as well.

Taken together, these resources are valued at $133, but when you sign
up today you’ll get them all for just $59.

To learn more about this new program and how you can save over 20%
when you sign up before Sunday, April 15, visit:

Sincerely,

Jackie Gray
Marketing Director, AWAI Travel Division

Stock Photo Processing comes with a 30-day money-back satisfaction
guarantee. If you decide this video program isn’t right for you,
simply send us an email or give us a call and we’ll return your money
as soon as possible. No questions asked.

Thanks BillyBob and others! this is very helpful and obviously one has to get organized and take the time to get going; one step at a time. I'm going to travel in Asia and hope to return with loads of good shots! hopefully, selling some will help defray future travels.
