I need some help with this one. Before I bought this lens I had asked if it would work on my D-3200,,,, He said YES! it will move & it does not! Can anyone tell me what camera body this lens will work/auto focus for, or am I missing something here?

It does manual focus and gives me Beautiful results but the auto isn't doing it's thing!

Thank You in advance, S.

Thats an FX lens and will not work on your camera, must be a D7000, D7100 or FX model

I looked at my manual for my D5300, which is a crop factor camera like the D3200.
According to the chart in my manual, it will accept the D lenses, but it won't autofocus.
I could be wrong.

your right it will mount but not auto focus it will manual focus ok, I didn;t think to mention it in my reply, I assumed if you want to purchase a lens of that quality you would want it to auto focus.

According to Ken Rockell's comprehensive list, seen HERE, that lens will work in Program, Shutter preferred, Aperture Preferred and Manual exposure but will not autofocus, because the lens has only the screw type focusing mechanism that your camera body lacks.
As mentioned, current model of the D-7XXX line and better have this feature.

It's a great lens, I had the older version and used it on my D200, D300 and D7000.

that lens requires a focus drive motor in camera body which your camera lacks.

Just manually focus and enjoy, it is a superb lens.

Yeah! I thought that D designation allows it to fit. You're correct when you mention that you'd want a lens that expensive ($???) to autofocus.
I just checked the price on Amazon. About $1200. If the OP, FastLens, can afford that lens they might be able to afford a camera to fit it.

Can you return it? If you bought from a reputable dealer you were misinformed and should be able to get your money back.
Or, you can buy a camera that will fit that lens.

I've got the same lens. Mine only cost me $400 used in perfect condition. It will AF with all of my DSLR's.... You needed to do a bit more research before plunking down that much money. Maybe asked on UHH before hand.

e-bay value on the lens is 300-350.
If you paid more, return it.

You must have dialed in the older push pull lens Ron... here is a link to the "sold " listings for this lens on eBay...

Bad advice! It will not auto focus on any D3xxx or D5xxx body.

So you have a choice, upgrade either the camera or the lens. The D3200 body has virtually no resale value, while the lens is still worth whatever you paid for it.

One option is to trade in the 80-200mm and find any of the 70-200mm f/2.8 lenses (Nikkor or others). The original Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G VR is extremely good on a DX sensor. It will vignette on an FX sensor, so if you ever plan on upgrading to an FX camera it isn't a great idea. But it costs a lot less than the VRII model.

I'd keep the lens and up grade to a D7xxx model or to any of the FX models. Look at a D7100 or perhaps even better a D610 from a reliable source such as KEH.com. Another step up would be a real treat if you are not making large prints. KEH has Nikon D3 models for $1359. A camera with the bells and whistles of a flagship model might cure you forever of using an entry level body... :-) And a D3 with the 80-200mm f/2.8 is a terrific combination.
