When shooting outdoors with my Canon 5DMarkII, I find it very difficult to read the information thru the view finder. The display is very dim and very small. Maybe using live view might be option around this, it is just not an option I have ever used. Does anyone know how to brighten the display or have the same problem? Thank you...Hope you all had a great Easter

Have you adjusted the diopter so that everything is sharp?

No don't kick me but have you read the manual? On my camera if I increase the brightness of the lcd then it also raises the brighness of the view finder :)

Yes I Have, its not that things are not sharp. It is that I can not tell what the meter setting are telling me...they are so small and not well lite...maybe not lite at all..

Oh sorry my mistake I misread you .... have you ever thought of wearing a baseball cap ? .. I wear a visor and that cuts the sun between your eye and the camera

You might contact one of our experts here:

His name is RPAVICH

He has added a brighter viewfinder and different focusing screen to his CANON to be able to see better.

Tell him I sent ya !

Ta da! To the rescue! :)

The magnifiyer might be the ticket for you. It magnifies all the info in the viewfinder.

I got mine from Ebay for 29.00 and it installed in about 1 minute.

PM me for the ebay info.

The 5dmii has that viewfinder problem. I use my set button to instantly bring up the info screen in the LCD so I can check the settings. It's a pain to look through the view finder and then look back at the LCD screen but it works.

I had the same problem w/my Nikon D5000. After trolling the web, I purchased a Hoodman Eyecup for glasses - problem solved. Yes, I can't flip the moveable LCD anymore (but I found I didn't do that most of the time) and it covers up a bit of the LCD, but I can squish (techie term) the soft bottom edge up if I need to see something at the top of the screen and the trade-off is well worth it. Now I can actually read the exposure info!

I am not sure I understand what you are doing here. I tried this and nothing comes up on the LCD screen. Unless you are talking about using the live view mode. Which, I agree with you, is a pain, but it does work. I get nothing by pressing the the SEL button though. Thank you for your help
