To me it looks underexposed in the HDR version with loss of detail in the well lightened rocks.
Like to see it with all the processing done in Photomatix which is streets ahead of the Adobe HDR engine.

An excellent use of HDR processing. By opening up the shadows, the depth of the scene is greatly increased. The highlight details in the textured surfaces and the sky make this a fine photograph. The fact that the use of HDR is not apparent makes this photograph stand above many other images seen here.

Thanks Swede, Just returned from spending three weeks in Utah and New Mexico with a ton of photographs to process. By the way, I upgraded from my Sony a850 to a Sony a99, a major improved difference. I'm really happy having both cameras in my bag.

Fantastic subject and the HDR version really opens up the shadows. But I tend to agree with Billyspad, Photomatix is a much better option than Adobe HDR, though I would always suggest that Photmatix processing is only the first step, the results still need further processing in your preferred PP software. There is also an issue with the adobe HDR version you have posted which is the chromatic abberation on the left edges of the rocks and the light blue colour shift near the right edges of the rock in the sky. Both easy to fixes in PP. But all in all I like it.
