Sigma 150-500mm

I just received the lens today.
I will mount it to a D7000 later in the week.
My question is about the #1 & #2 settings on the OS or VR whatever applies to this lens.
The instructions say #2 is for horizonal panning which controls vertical movement???
I know MT is a seasoned veteran with this lens.
Just wanted some better explanation rather than the vague description supplied from sigma.
The issue is #1 setting controls both horizonal & vertical while the #2 just controls vertical movement???
Any experienced shooter out there give me some direction before i mount the lens & experement. Thanks Bill

Use number one for handheld shots only. Use number two for monopod mounting, and turn OS off completely for tripod mounting. Watch through the viewfinder when uou press your shutter button halfway down to focus and you will actually see the OS engage and steady the image, especially when you are shooting at or past 300mm.

Thanks again for your expertise with this lens.
If it shoots as good as it looks i will be impressed. V/R Bill

Please give us some sample pictures and a review. I, too, am interested in this lens.

I just received the lens today. br I will mount it... (show quote)

Canon has a similar setting on some of its lenses. Setting #1 adjusts for camera movement in both horizontal and vertical planes. #2 ignores the horizontal movement of the panning technique and only corrects for any vertical movement. If it didn't ignore the horizontal movement it would continually be correcting for something that you were trying to do on purpose and would probably introduce AF errors.

MT: Would you turn the OS of with a chest harness & mounting system the same as you would a standard tripod... I assume yes

I tried a Cotton Carrier chest harness once, didn't like it because I could count my heartbeats in the viewfinder with my 300mm lens. I got lucky and sold it for what I had in it at the time. I have never used a lens that had OS on one though, but because of my experience I would suggest you try it ON, see what happens. Pixels are free, makes it easy to experiment.
