A Carolina Chickadee I shot in my backyard. There are absolutely NO filters used.

Thoughts ...

Either this is a photo of a painting taken in your back yard or your noise reduction program has run wild. BTW there is no EXIF attached to this picture which suggests it is not a photo.

Frankly, I don't have much interest in bird pictures either. If I have an opportunity, sure, but sports and entertainment is my bread and butter!

That's because this image was was made from a copy on my website, hence no metadata. I didn't feel like trying to find the original for what was originally just an exercise to see if I could do it. It is most definitely a photo: here's a link to the photo on my site: https://donolea.smugmug.com/Other/Nature/i-8B4sRMJ/A

I assumed when I saw ir Don it was a photo you had digitally painted over?
Knowing what gear you have and processing skills I did not see noise as an issue with one of your shots. Seems a problem with us mortals who use consumer type lenses.

Now their is a way for mere mortals to hide noise issues as well, no matter what lens or ISO you shoot at. There are, however, give and takes to such post work. It just depends on what you are comfortable with.

hi, Don,
You mention that it was "...just an exercise to see if I could do it."
What was it, specifically, that you were trying to do? It clearly is a modification of a photograph, but it would help to know what effect you sought before before beginning to try to judge how successful you were in achieving your aim.

Thanks,
Dave

I was specifically trying to see if I could turn a photo into something that looked like a painting, hence the title.

Topaz has a few programs that can do that for you and they all have sliders for adjustment to any degree of treatment you may desire. If you have already tried them out sorry to burden you with it.
