B-17 "Flying Fortress" at the Kirtland Air Force Base. This plane was a sister of the Memphis Belle during WW-2 and contributed mightily to our victory in Europe.
That is one beautiful old bird. Nicely photographed. Didn't miss much with that series of shots.

Thanks for your comments. Not many B-17s around anymore for sure.
Fine job, very enjoyable!
Great photos of a great plane! We've had the privilege to spend the past winters in Mesa, AZ only 3 blocks from Falcon Field where Sentimental Journey is based (CAF AZ wing). Love the old warbirds.
I've seen this beautiful lady fly many times. Very nice work.

nice pictures there is great history in the B17 just love it
Great coverage of the plane. By your pictures, it looks like it takes a minimum of 7 men just to fly the plane & man the guns. Somebody has to supply the ammo to the gunners and release the tie-downs on the bombs carried. does anybody out there know, how many men it took to fly on a mission? It's amazing how it only takes a single pilot to fly a plane and fire the laser guided missils now....
https://www.azcaf.orgThis is the home site for the CAF Airbase Arizona where they have one of the flying B-17's. Once on the home page, click on "Aircraft" and there is a section about the crewmen air positions as well as the story of their B-17
My father was a Top Turret/Engineer on one of these (Ol' Battle Axe). Two side gunners, one tail, one ball, one nose, pilot, co pilot, radio (could be a side gunner as well), and either a bombardier or togglier to release the bombs. Great pictures of a marvelous (really) aircraft flown by very young men with incredible bravery.
