Now there are news from the fashion world about special selfie sticks for brides. Those sticks are designed as a part of the wedding gown/bridal outfit and can be used at the ceremony as well as at the party afterwards. Will this be the new kind of wedding photography or will this come as an addition to the traditional wedding photographer?
We all know that fashion and women are glued together so I wonder how this new fashion will affect the wedding photography industry.
Any thoughts??

I was at a wedding a couple of weeks ago (not as a photographer) and while some of the guests took selfies, none of the wedding party took selfies and I saw no selfie sticks.

Careful, I may lose my supper!
I wouldn't care about the wedding industries.
As cameras get better on phones, I look to this as being a cheaper way to record your special day. However, there will always be those who want the quality of the professional photographer. We may shoot less but our prices will go up. Only the rich will be able to afford us and then everyone will want us, once again. Its a cycle.
Many years ago, before digital, we were at a wedding where each table at the reception was given a throwaway camera. The new couple used those photos along with the professional photos. I would hope that new couples who want to do the selfie thing will do something similar.

That sounds like a cool idea, I wonder how it worked out.

They liked the pro photos best, but the others showed parts of the wedding day from a non-pro point of view which added a flavour to the mix that the pro would have missed. Of course, not all of the non-pro photos were used.
I despise selfies and am annoyed by people who take them. But I suspect that people who are getting married who would otherwise hire a professional will do so, despite selfies, and those who wouldn't hire a professional or feel that they can't afford one will be "satisfied" with their selfies. Not everyone hires a professional to shoot a wedding, for various reasons.
Selfies....................pardon me while I vomit.
I can't imagine a couple getting married and would rely on "selfies" for their wedding pictures. I can see a couple getting their own personal "selfies" in addition to the professional wedding pictures. But hey... That's the world we live in, kids today want everything fast and efficient. They do all their shopping online and have it delivered to the house.

The preponderance of smart phones has led us to this turn of events. But I think we should embrace it. No sense fighting them... We're all addicted to them! Curse you, Steve Jobs!
Seriously, professionals EVERYWHERE are screaming like stuck pigs, whining that they can't make a buck at the low end of the market any longer... So GO HIGH END, already. Learn to sell to society brides and their money-loving parents. There's always room in that stratosphere for the exceptional.
And don't complain when the bride whips out her selfie stick. Offer to put her best, and her friends' best photos, in the bridal album, for a fee.

In 2001, my wife and kids attended the wedding of her best friend. It was a second or third marriage for both (they were in their 40s). Anyway, they FORGOT to hire a photographer... We learned this the night before.
I was at this out-of-town wedding as a guest, so I had only a cheap Canon APS Elph camera with me. But, I hastily found a place that sold APS film, bought eight rolls and some spare batteries, and blasted away.
They loved those photos! Yes, they were harsh, with direct flash from a peanut strobe, and they were grainy, too. But they captured memories of the event.
The husband died a couple of years ago. My wife took those and other photos and turned them into a memorial video for the funeral service.
The best camera you have is the one you have with you. If that's an iPhone or an Android device, so be it. High end smart phone cameras are a heck of a lot better than APS film cameras ever were.

In 1999 or so, a co-worker of mine at what was then Herff Jones Photography Division got married. Most of the attendees were from our labs in Lewiston, MN, and Charlotte, NC. The bride put a disposable camera on every reception table and encouraged us to use up all the film and leave it in a bowl by the door at the end of the evening.
She had also hired a pro another co-worker. Her album was quite cool a mix of images from the professional's cameras and the best all those disposables.
Today, everyones' smart phone images would wind up on various social media sites, photo sharing sites, and perhaps in a printed album...
