I am very seriously planning on buying a factory refurbished Nikon D5100 bundled kit directly from Nikon U.S.A. The kit includes the D5100 body, two lenses and a speedlight. We're talkin' about the $1,000.00 neighborhood. I am awaiting a response to my inquiry about a warranty, if any. Have any of you had any experience with a factory refurbished camera and/or lens from any one of the "majors"?

I bought my Nikon D7000 refurbished from Nikon and have had no problems. I love it. As far as warranty goes, don't expect more than 90 days.
Thanks for your prompt reply. I wish you Many years ofr great shooting with your D7000.
Wondering why refurb?
The price of a NEW D5100 with 18-55mm lens AND 55-300mm lens, with bag and 4MB SDHC card is only $949 right now at Costco, and that gets you full factory warranties on all.
Re-furbished usually does NOT mean used. The term "re-furbished" includes simply replacing original boxes or packaging, or equipment "sold", but not shipped (legally considered "previously owned" and no longer new), to new equipment returned with no problems or easily repaired problems. Re-furbs should include original warranty card.
About 2-years ago, I purchased a re-furb SB-600 speedlight on eBay for US$200, including original warranty, and still use it weekly for macro illumination.
Thanks for your feedback. I'm getting more and more enthused.

$50 Costco membership and local sales tax drives price higher than Nikon USA order, which also includes speedlight (most likely SB-600 or SB-700). Re-furb will include Nikon warranty.
My Nikon D7000 is "re-furbished" from Nikon and have had no problems with it. The only problem I have had was 12" behind the viewfinder.
My Nikon 18-70mm f3.5-4.5 lens if a factory refurb and works like a charm. I wouldn't hesitate to go factory refurb for another purchase.

Yes, but the second lens in that kit is the 55-200mm, not the 55-300mm. AND the refurb warranty is only 90 days rather thanthe Nikon USA 1 year on a new body, and 5 years on the new lenses. Plus Costco gives a second year warranty on the body. I buy refurb too, when the deal is right. I don't worry about sales tax as we don't have one here, and I use Costco for all my printing so I already have a membership. It pays for itself after awhile.

And you know this how? Per first post, OP is still waiting for warranty specifics, and never mentioned lenses in package. You may be right, but only speculation at this point. I am curious as to which Speedlight included. They ain't cheap.

Larry I bought a Nikon d5100 refurbished 4 months ogo
no problems and I saved about $ 250.00
I'm really interested in buying a flash and another lens for my D300 and would like to go the refurbished route. However I live in England and looking at the Nikon website there doesn't seem to be a refurbished list or options available.
Can anyone confirm or know of good alternative sites in Great Britain.
thanks
