I have been agonizing on the purchase of a new photo printer. I was originally looking at the Pixma Pro 10 and 100 and also the Epson P600. I don't do a lot of printing and I'm not selling photos that much so I really didn't need anything in a production category but I didn't want a standard 4 color ink printer. Cost was a factor also considering this is my first printer like this that will be dedicated to producing photos. I was really in a quandary until today. I just found out that B&H had a $100 instant rebate on the Pixma Pro 100, plus, Canon has a $250 mail in rebate. Actual cost $49.00. I just couldn't pass it up.

Canon makes this rebate offer often for this model (as they did with its predecessor 9000 Mark ii). For that price it is a very good deal on a very good printer, and one of the reasons that line of printers has become so popular. The prints it produces are excellent; don't be surprised if you find yourself wanting to print much more often than you have in the past.

Boy, I wish you had posted before purchasing! The Epson P600 is an amazing printer. I loved it as soon as I used it, but loved it even more when I didn't use it for a month and found that the next time I ran it it printed immediately and flawlessly. Good luck with your new printer.

I read up quite a bit on the Epson P600 and it was high on my list but the difference in price, I just couldn't pass up. If I don't like this one I haven't lost much so I'll sell it and move up later.

Earlier this year, I purchase a Canon Pro-100 color printer, in a similar rebate situation as yours. I am quite pleased with my Pro-100; you will also be pleased.

I invite you to drop-by the new UHH section entitled Printers and Color Printing Forum at http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-120-1.html

Just purchased the Canon Pro 10 and very happy with it. Got it from Adorama with a $250.00 rebate. Came with a 50 pk of 13x19 film and a complete replacement of inks. The rebates ended 10/3 and I happened to see the special on 10/2. Just lucky I guess

Id say bravo! That $100 instant rebate must have ended. I went this morning to look and only see the Canon Mail-in rebate, but not the instant rebate. That's my luck - always a day late and a dollar short!

To bad. I stumbled on it in another website and when I ordered it the $100 came up automatically.

I found it again, try this coupon code PRINTPRO100. See if it works.

Buying an inkjet printer is always dicey. They can give you the printer for nothing but it can still end up being very expensive because of the high cost of the replacement ink cartridges. In many cases, it is cheaper to print your photos at Walmart or CVS than to print them at home.

I'm aware of the cost difference and when my wife wants to go get 300 4X6's processed it's off to Wally World, and believe me she does that on a regular basis. I wanted the printer so I have a little more control over my photos that I have sold in the past and I might try to do that again. If I can it'll pay for the ink.

Great, it did work! However, you did notice that the "rebate" is in the form of an American Express" reward card, not a straight up rebate, right?

That's OK with me I'll just divert the funds to buy something else to get the cash back. It all comes out in the wash.

Epsons are very good printers, as are Canons. I had a basic Canon Pixma for about 8 years that did excellent duty without any problems until the print head died. I then got a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 mk II in a similar deal to the OP. The inks are not cheap, but it delivers very good results and is entirely reliable despite periods of inactivity.

It's good to have these choices available.

Good luck!
