I like the idea of the piece but I'm at a loss as to how to present it as I don't photograph people doing something other than posing.

The bottom photo is the original out of camera with a little help in contrast. If you wouldn't mind helping me make a choice I would appreciate it very much. Or, you may suggest a different cropping. Please feel free to download and make any changes you think might help and posting back in this thread if you wish.

Thanks, Jim

Jim I find the second one works for me. The uncropped shot with the two kids in the background is a distraction to me. Even without seeing their faces I get the impression they are enjoying themselves.

And the hands down winner is Frank.

I'm gonna have to get me self out to a hog farm and get a couple shots of some little piggies. Wonder what the effect would be snuggled up next to a couple of my lady models. (Hands of, Billy.) lol

Great idea. I absolutely love it. Thanks, Frank. Perfect placement of the little fellows. Of course, now I can steal it - right?

Jim Number 2 works without the kids in the background who are just a distraction in number on.
Frank gets a prize for hijacking your thread and will learn a lot, as we all will, about blending objects into the original photo on Friday when one of our more expert members will be giving some hints and tips on this very subject.

I will be happy to tune in. I need all the help I can get.

I just love those cute little piggies - especially in his surf and my picture.

I love those piggies too and enjoy them wherever they show up. Nice shot Jim and one I will play with when I get home in another week or so, and have a computer rather than a phone to play on. Thanks to you and to Frank for your creativity.

I vote for 1a. I like the black and white. The cropped version is too tight and is not as interesting to me as the one with the kids running. I don't mind partials; I find the angles and looks interesting as part of street photography. I think that the tire, or whatever it is, in the upper left could be deleted.

Edie,

I had reached a point of desperation in that I didn't think anyone would care for my original choice because of the headless kids running. Quite frankly, I think it adds more interest, rather than detracting - and for the life of me, I don't remember the wheel in the upper left. You are quite correct and it should be cloned out along with the countless pieces of candy that were lying in the street before I began cloning. I think I was so sick of cloning things out that I either just didn't see it or just didn't care anymore.

I know HCB would have left all the pieces of candy - only because he didn't have the means to clone them out.

Thanks for your very astute observation and you sense of picture. This ability is true for all the critiques you present in UHH - not just mine. I don't know of a better eye.

Edie, br br I had reached a point of desperation ... (show quote)

That's very kind of you to say, Jim. Thanks very much. If only I could produce photos that I like. Easier to critique than to create.
