I am in the market for a new flat bed/photo scanner. Some of my professional buds tell me to get the Epson V800 but others have suggested the cheaper V300. I already have a Nikon slide and film scanner (35 mm only) and would still like to scan old photos and medium format film .. Any ideas
Haven't bought it yet, but did quite a lot of research and am considering the Canoscan 9000F Mark II. You might give it a look -- others who know more might choose to comment and give us both some guidance.:-)
Will canon scanner 900F mkll, or is it 9000F mkll, work on Mac OS 10.7.5?
Looks like a nice scanner but will not do medium format and other non 35 mm films which I have alot of thanks

I have an Epson v500 scanner and two Epson printers and feel that you can't go wrong with their products.

this may sound stupid, but I will throw it on the table anyway... use your (digital) camera! a slide adapter on your camera, and your camera and a light box for 2 1/4 or 4x5 negs. Once in the jpg or raw format, you have zillions of "photo shop" tools to help you.. My faavorite photo, of my grandchildren, got lost in my filing system, taking a photo of the print, though admittedly a last resort, worked!
Epson has a refurblished v550 on their website I purchased it for $120.00. Check it out I believe it will do everything that you require.

I strongly suggest you look at the refurbished Epson V600. Currently selling for $145 on the Epson site. I have it, use it as a scanner for 35mm slides, 2 1/4 negatives, prints, copier and to make Pdf files. I love it! Check it out here:

I started with the Epson V500 Photo and eventually wore it out as I do a LOT of scans in the store. I replaced it with the Epson V600 Photo over a year ago, they are unbeatable in the sub-$200 price range and provide results comparable to scanners costing over $1000.
Thanks for all the great feedback. I am going with the Epson V600 as the reviews are good and my fellow Ugly Hedgehogs like it too...
I have a scanner that works good but the last driver they made was for XP. Won't work with Windows 7. Lucky I still have one computer running XP. Guess I'll be looking at the Epson 600.

I have the older Epson V750 and love the quality of scans. I would spend the extra for the 850. I us it for scanning slides but also family photos from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Works like a charm and quality is superb.

This may work with your old scanner and present operating system:

I've done thousands of scans with the V600 in the six years I've had it, and I'm completely satisfied.
