Hi
I have 2 printers. HP psc 1317 & HP Deskjet 1120C. And they are both giving me the same problem. All of my photo printouts have a blue cast to the finished article. I guess they are both using the same HP software to generate the print although I use Adobe Photoshop 7 to manipulate the prints prior to printing. I have tried printing a photo before it goes anywhere near Photoshop, but with the same result. Does anyone have any thoughts on the reason for this - and hopefully an answer?

I feel that you should be using the Adobe Photo Shop manages color instead of the printer managing the color in the printer driver menu. That is more than likely the reason that you are having color problems and it's called "double color management". I and others here have written extensively about this and if you do a search on this in the search box up above at the top of the page you will find tons of info on "printing", "color management" and so forth.
You need to calibrate your monitor to your printer(s), then they will print what you see.
I think flyguy had the answer... I just set up my Epson 3880 and had similar problems (before that I would print thru a CMYK RIP). Epson's great tech team walked me through it. Try this in Photoshop. Under EDIT, go to COLOR SETTINGS and in the top box choose "North America Prepress 2"---click OK, then under EDIT go to ASSIGN PROFILE and choose "Do Not Color Manage". Now go to PS PRINT/PRINT SETTINGS/LAYOUT and scroll down to PRINTER SETTINGS and pick the type of paper you are using. Click OK. Use PHOTOSHOP MANAGES COLOR, then your paper type (again) and lastly, PERCEPTUAL Rendering intent. Worked great for me on an Epson... hope it works for you!
Many thanks, I'll give it a try.

Absolutely!
I recently got the Epson 3880 and also have an Epson 1400
and love them. Hope you have a good experience with your's too.
Hi
Thanks for the info. I am just too busy right now to try out the solutions, but rest assured that when I do and if it works, I will post my gratitude and the results.
Many thanks

John... just another quick note... no need to reply. On 2 occasions I have picked up HP paper to use in my Epson. Both times the results were way off the mark. Could be I just didn't have the proper ICC profiles for the paper. Curiously, Staples paper has always worked very well, but I don't believe it's "archival".
