I have been looking for a super zoom bridge, but I like to use a polarizing filter. What super zoom bridge cameras have threads on the lens so I can use filters? It seems that most do not.

I have the Canon sx 60 hs, it has threads. I've only had it for a few days, but really liking what I have been able to do with it. Maybe check out some stats on the internet for size.

Do your own check of the specifications of what's available here:

Panasonic Lumix FZ-70, Has a 60X zoom starting at 20mm wide angle (which is rare). Selling today for $250 and below if you watch for a sale. Circular polarizing filter from them is DMW-LPL55, apparently 55mm.

Be careful with a CPL at focal lengths below 25mm because you might get vignetting if the CPL isn't a thin one.

I do not know of any semi serious camera that does have a thread for filters.

As RWR says, check the specs before your purchase anything. More precisely check for (lens diameter) = (size in mm)

What people have described as threads on the Canon SX50 and SX60 is actually just what the cap snaps into.

See:

It may look that way but it's not threads, just grooves to hold the lens cap on.

Requires a filter adapter FA-DC67A
Adapter required when mounting a 67mm filter.
(page 217 of manual)

Edit: Linda From Maine beat me to it again ! lol

The Canon SX50 HS (refurb) is back on sale for 149.99
I purchased one about 4 weeks ago for this price and have taken a ton of pictures with it and am very pleased, it is a fantastic edition to my Canon 40D and T5i and for the price you can't go wrong, you still get a warranty and all.

If you don't like it you can sell it for more than what you bought it for.

The Canon SX-40, SX-50, SX-60 do not have threads- it looks like it but it is not threaded. There are a number of inexpensive adapters available to use to attach filters. The better ones are for 67mm filters.

The Sony HX300 & HX400 (50x superzoom) has built-in threads for 55mm filters and/or lens hoods...no adapters required. They mount direct to the lens.
