No, not me. Guns are not something I want to mess with.

This video was made by a police officer that loves guns. The way it starts is a bit misleading. Give it time and watch at least half of it, even though it is slow moving.

I don't want a war here. I would like to see intelligent remarks, not heated banter. Give some thought to what you want to say. Keep it civil, refrain from name calling and enter the discussion as just that, a discussion. Don't try to change peoples minds, just make remarks about how YOU feel about it.

That gentleman made a great deal of sense. I don't think it would solve all the issues immediately, but it would be a very sane start.

Someone posted this video in the last gun debate a few days ago.
You reposted hoping to start another free for all.
We all know where you stand on guns you made that perfectly clear in the last one.

I posted it in a recent thread that had become very heated. I quit participating because I didn't like the ridiculous free for all. As I stated in this original post, don't go there. Let's make it a discussion that we can all learn from. Something that open minded people can appreciate.

It does not matter where I stand. But the video might help you to understand that I am NOT against guns. I would like to see a little more thought go into how to make an effort to make them safer in a novice's hands (or even those that think they are experts).

There is much more that one has to do in order to get a driver license. There should be requirements when buying a gun to go through some basic training in the use of the gun, how to safe keep it from others, how to make sure a person breaking into your home will not be able to get your gun and turn it against you etc.

With a driver license you have to test periodically to make sure you are still capable of driving a car.

That is true and was true for those times. But do you think the government cares? I think the government will do what it pleases, guns or not.

I have lost so much faith in our own government and its ethics. They do horrible things in other countries that many times we are not aware of. That is one of the reasons other countries h**e us...and we the people don't understand. Because we think we are great, and fair and would never do anything underhanded. Wish it weren't so.

I trusted our country when I was young. But I've learned too much over the years to sweep it under the carpet. But this is an entirely different subject...sorry to diverge from the subject of guns.

Interesting that you use driving a car as a comparison. When someone drinks and drives and cause accident we pass stricter laws on drunk driving we do not ban cars.

When some mentally deranged person shoots people those on the left like your president call for gun control.
Never do they want to do something about the real cause.
When you outlaw guns only outlaws will have them.
I don't know why that is so hard for those on the left to understand.

Did you really read my post? I NEVER said now OR ever to ban guns!!!!!

Driving a car is a huge responsibility and one should be tested to see if one can really drive it safely. One should be tested to see if they really can handle a gun.

This is a problem for people that are so adamant about their beliefs, they read things into peoples' post that do not exist because they draw a conclusion first, then read. Open your eyes and please read what I said!! not what you imagined I said.

I read your post if you read mine then you need to read it again.
Like I said we pass stricter laws for drunk driving but when a nut case shots a bunch of people did Obama call for changes for mentally ill. NO he calls for more guns laws.
How about we focus on the REAL problem for once.

So you understand I am not against guns.

I read yours. Most of the deaths regarding guns are not the mentally ill, such as in the mass k*****gs.

Stricter laws regarding drunk driving are important. But how do you make stricter laws regarding the mentally ill. If they get their guns by filling out the form, as the man in the video referenced, they can lie on all the answers. That form is basically useless.

If it is required to provide a mental evaluation, that is an invasion of privacy. Mental health providers can not share their findings on an individual.

So what do you propose? What this man in the video suggests are some basic common sense approaches to allowing people to get guns. This is a beginning. From that point on maybe other strategies will be developed to keep guns out of the hands of people that should not have them.

Criminals will always have guns, because they are not law abiding citizens. But criminals and the mentally ill are not the only ones that k**l.

Wendy ... I live in Ct. Our gun laws are similar to the ones you have in Ca. The Ex Police officer is clearly misinformed. There are many requirements to purchase or carry. Here is a link for Common questions about firearms law in Ca.

Thanks, I will review that. I don't know where he is from, I don't think it was stated. Maybe in his area it is true?

Thanks for the link!

Wendy ... Here is a Federal link for the Yes/No form the man in the video is talking about

Pay attention to Questions 21-23. They require a Federal NICS (National Instant Criminal check System).

In addition .. I am a certified NRA Instructor that most States recognize and require to buy or carry a pistol. Click on my user name above my avatar.
