Is anyone else having trouble with the SSD hard drive? I lost all my email address's. Doing a search comes up with nothing. I bought one of the cheaper ones. Is that the problem? I have never lost email address's before.

I doubt that it would be an SSD problem. There must be another explanation. What size and what brand did you get?

It's a Samsung 500GB from B&H, Pd. $179. with the $20. rebate, bought in August.

I have them in two computers - Dell desktop and MacBook Pro - and they've been working okay. That drive has gotten good reviews.

Something here might help. Apparently, losing email addresses isn't unusual.

Thanks Jerry. :D If you are using SSD in 2 machines with no problem I must have clicked on the wrong thing. I use outlook, older version on the desktop and the new version on laptop. They are different. I'll make sure I backup on another drive everyday just in case there was a glitch.

I have one SSD in my desktop machine. It has performed flawlessly. Two main caveats: no SSD that I'm aware of has an infinite life--they all have a maximum number of read/writes before "death." Also, beware of operations that you may have used on HDDs, like SpeedDisk or Diskeeper or similar programs; they can be great for HDDs but are bad for SSDs, causing needless and unnecessary read/writes.

Thanks, if no one else is having trouble it must be my fault. I don't have any software like you mentioned to check hard drives.

Most SSDs are reliable these days. A few years back, there were serious reliability issues, but most of those were related to the use of SSDs to speed up network servers.

You didn't mention your computing platform or brand or OS, but there are a few specific Macs that can't use third party SSDs without problems with certain versions of OS X. You can research that on Other World Computing's web site and blog...

An SSD drive wouldn't specifically lose your email addresses. More likely, you accidentally changed your Outlook data file that stores you information.

Try this:
1st, so a search for a file named Outlook.PST. This would be your data file with all your emails and other info.
Look at the size of the file. It should be pretty large.

If/when you find it, note it's location on your computer.

Finally, open Outlook. Go to File-->Open--> and point to where the file is located.
Your eMail addresses should now appear.

If this works you might want to make a copy of the Outlook.PST file and store it in another location, preferably on another drive, and occasionally recopy the original file if you add or delete contacts/emails.

Hope this helps.

If you have the Diskeeper or similar programs designed with SSD's in mind No problem at all.

Couldn't find them, only found Outlook. Thanks for trying to help me.

OK, one more approach. Your settings may nor show the file extension (.PST)
Try another search for *.pst INCLUDE the asterisk (*)
