Hello from St. Louis
Hello all...I am a struggling Photography. It is my absolute passion. I use a Canon 50D. My favorite lens is my 24-70. I use it for everything. I just bought a MAC Pro computer. I have never used MAC before. Does anyone want to be my mentor?? Just curious what most MAC user use for editing...I would assume Photoshop but I would like something a bit easier? Thanks for any help you can pass my way. Would love to hear from anyone that would like to become my email buddy.
Hey. Been on the forum for a couple weeks and everyone is incredibly supportive and helpful... no matter what your skill level. I can help you through some of the issues you're having. Photoshop is the champ, but its expensive and the learning curve is steep. Lightroom is amazing, great for cataloging, and easy fixes. Might be a good idea to go to Kelbytraining.com and give them a try for 30 days. A lot of great lessons and tips there. Also, podcasts... free and informative. Lightroom Killer Tips especially great. Feel free to contact me photobyklein@gmail.com. And check out my work jaimeklein.smugmug.com/. Have fun shooting. Jaime
Great photos, Jaime. Thanks for all the suggestions. What about Lightroom? Is it a tough program? I am old. LOL
My website is

Wait a second... I looked at your site and you're really good. The shot of the bride with the Coke is inspired. You CAN'T just be starting with no knowledge of post processing. That is really good work.
As if you don't already know... a few words of wisdom... Organize and be consistent with your filenames and back EVERYTHING up. I have 3 copies of every photo. MAC Time machine is great... and automatic!. Storage drives are cheap. Get the biggest you can afford and let Time Machine do the rest. Photoshop Elements is god... Lightroom is better... Photoshop in conjunction with Lightroom is my workflow. But why am I telling you? You got it down!!! Very nice work.
You might me sorry you offered! Lol. I am an aspiring photographer but these editing program throw me for a loop! I have been using Picasa but I need to branch out because I really need to start shooting in raw. I just bought my first Mac...haven't even received it yet...due on Friday. Any help you can give me with the editing part, would be greatly appreciated. What program do you use? Are you a professional photographer? Thanks again for the offer of help. If I start bugging you too much, let me know.
You are too kind but thanks for the kind words. I feel I have the photography part down but not the editing. which one should I get? Lightroom or photoshop?
You are all too kind. Thank you for the support.
Hello Creakj --
If you are just beginning, you seem to have an EXCELLENT start. Very nice shots on your website.
I am just an enthusiast and an MS Windows user... so St. Louis might be our only thing in common... other than I'm new on here as well.
But since you are looking for customers, I'm wondering how you get your start???... word of mouth, buying ads, shows (art/craft fairs), etc?
Welcome and good luck - John
Hi there!
I use Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5, and I have used several iterations of Elements. Personally, I think Elements is very underrated. It's going to give most photographers everything they need for post processing, and for the price! I think it's $79 from Costco right now.
Lightroom 3 is excellent. With a few well selected plug-ins you can tailor your application to your needs instead of paying for a lot of features that you probably won't use as with the CS programs. One feature I like very much about Lightroom is how easy it is to tether and make adjustments as you shoot.
Of course CS5 is the latest and greatest. I do nearly all of my finish work in CS and a most people will probably never outgrow it. If you cross paths with anyone that has, let me know - I want to meet them. The downfall of CS might just be that it is so powerful. There are at least a half-dozen ways of accomplishing the same goal in nearly every case. If you're someone who constantly needs to be learning, this might be the one for you.
By the way, St Louis is my favorite city. We have a daughter and son-in-law there. She works for Boeing and he is a St Louis firefighter. Our favorite restaurant is Charlie Gitto's on The Hill. Ever been there? Contact me anytime if you need help with your photos.

Thanks. You may be sorry....I am full of questions. Just bought a Mac and have ordered Lightroom. Do you use Lightroom? Thanks again.
John,
Thanks for the kind words. I second guess myself all the time.
You asked how I got started with my business? I work a full time job at a hospital so I got a lot of jobs thru work. I also have two daughters with small children, so they sent me some referrals. My daughters wrote The St. Louis Wedding Book and put a listing for me in there. Most of my business is by word of mouth.
Keep in touch and thanks again.
