35mm digital back on 4 x 5

Has anyone any experience using a movable digital camera back on a 4 x 5 camera?

It seems like a great cheap way to up your static image resolution.

I realize the technique is similar to panoramic stitching.

I just wonder if anyone here has tried it.

Randy, wish I could help, but I intended to try the same thing on my old Linhof Technica III, but was told by the US Linhof distributor that only the newer models could be made to accept a 35mm or 2 1/4 back. I had 4 lenses for the Linhof so did not want to swap all -- so gave up. I ,too, was thinking of panoramic shots. Would like to hear how yours works out, if you can evolve the set-up.

The backs I am looking at are universal Graflok 4x5 adapters. They fit any 4x5 with an International or Graflok style back, which is almost every 4x5 made since the 50's.

They range in price from $200 to $1000.

Some are fixed Nikon mount with no movements.

Some pan the long way allowing 3 stitched shots.

The most expensive allows 4 shots with rotation and panning.

With a D800 one may achieve 100 mega pixel images.

Since they are marketing these adapters someone must have tried them out.

I will search further on APUG and Large Format.

Thanks for your reply.
