Matting is the more usual especially if a numbered limited edition.

Matting can be removed.
Water mark in corner can be cropped out, or PP.
If a dis - honest person wants to steal there is a way, old saying a padlock keeps a honest person honest.
I have used water mark, PP'd name, signed, front and back. If your selling in person, I suggest water mark front small Back hand written Title - # 0f # - Signature in front of customer, on photo.
