Interesting, there is really nothing to go wrong in the lens as the motor is in the camera. You must be referring to the camera body.

Yes, it is the camera bodies that I was referring to. The lenses were/are awesome!

and the reason for this is simple, unlike nikon or canon who sourced their glass from schneider, minolta made their own glass, from raw silica on up. this is the reason e leitz used their glass in their slr lenses.

I beg to differ with you. Nikon was a scientific company first. They produced their own lenses and they still do , from start to finish.

Yes, I am familiar with their microscopes too. Awesome. It is amazing that they can magnify that much and have such a perfect looking result. Olympus also produces incredible Microscopes.

And Olympus is the world leader in endoscopes. So now you can either swallow a lens or put one "up yours" from the other end and come away with a great image! :D

Yes, I am familiar with the "up yours" considering that my father, and my father's father, and my father's father's mother all died of colon cancer.

having used nikons since the sp and s3 up through and including the F6, i can assure you nikon did not make their own glass. used to do a little r&r in Tokyo and visit with them to discuss specific lenses which would work well in conflict conditions. got to visit the clean rooms and watch the "massaging" of the blanks.

You guys should also check out the original Minolta AF 100mm f/2.8 macro.

VERY sharp from the center to the corners, ZERO distortion, GREAT colors, and the ability to pinpoint your focus area.

A REALLY nice lens.

^^^The thing about Sony E mount cameras is, you can do something that was VERY difficult to do in the past... a DIRECT comparison between lenses from different manufacturers on the SAME body.

When I checked my Minolta AF 100mm f/2.8 against a Canon 100mm f/2.8 L... a lens 14 years younger... both on an A7RII, the Minolta was sharper, even though it's auto focus was glacial in comparison. But hey; who autofocuses when shooting macro anyhow?

The Minolta macro lens is purposely geared down so as to better hit the best focus spot. I am not surprised it is slower. I see this in manual focus also in that I can rotate the focus ring farther which aids manual focus accuracy. Its a wonderful lens.
